Destiny 2 in a constant verifying and resume loop
EDIT: Taking the RAM out and putting it back in worked. No RAM issues when I ran tests, but once I took them out and put them back in, the game magically worked.

So when I was playing Destiny last night in Steam on my PC, the game crashed. I don't remember the error, but it was late and I decided to take it as a sign to go to bed.

When I started the game up the next morning, it said I needed to update something. So I clicked update, and it went directly to "Verifying" for about 2 minutes. Once that was done, the blue button switched from Pause to Resume. So I clicked Resume, and it went through the verification process again. And it has become this vicious circle.

Did some google searches and people were saying to clear your download cache, which I've done. Some have said to change your Download Region, which I've done. I've uninstalled D2 and Steam, separately and together. I've even checked the health of my SSD and my RAM--didn't realize how long Memtest86 was going to take--but my SSD is in good health and no errors on my RAM.

I noticed that when I click on the Manage Downloads at the bottom of Steam, it brings up D2 and shows it under "Unscheduled," and says in red, "Corrupt Update Files." There's a little refresh icon near that, so I click it. Steam starts to download the files again, verifies, and then asks me to resume, etc etc.

What I've noticed is when I go into the Steam folder, the entire D2 game looks to be sitting under the Steam --> Steamapps --> Downloading --> 1085660 folder--it has the D2 launcher, the D2 game, and a bunch of other files. Normally it would create the game under Steam --> Steamapps --> Common --> Destiny 2, but that file is blank. I've tried copying over the files from the downloading folder into the Destiny 2 folder, but that doesn't work--Steam keeps saying there's 0 B in the Destiny 2 folder--like it doesn't recognize any files there. When I try to repair these files, it says "0 files repaired."

I've tried installing the game on a new SSD/HDD to see if that would work, and it doesn't.

So I tried deleting/renaming/moving the download folder, but that doesn't help. Someone mentioned about moving or deleting the depotcache folder, but that doesn't help either. I'm unsure how to proceed from here. There was a point where the game allowed me to load Destiny 2, but it started verifying the contents within the game, and then gave me a Beagle error. I haven't been able to get that error since--it's just the verifying and resume loop.

Any help would be appreciated.

Well, where the Beagle code is concerned, there is the following page.
https://help.bungie.net/hc/en-us/articles/360049196011-Error-Code-BEAGLE

Not much, but maybe the best course of action is to completely uninstall the game and not touch it for now.

The Beagle error seemed to be some sort of freak accident because I haven't been able to replicate it. But I'd rather not just uninstall it and and not touch it--it's kinda my go to game right now. Ironically I just started playing it within the past month and was really getting back into it. Of course this has to happen -_-

I started going through the log files, and I see errors like this:

AppID 1085660 update canceled : Failed updating depot 1085661 while unpacking bad chunk "e9f94c282b2f74bceb1c84f7bde955c42f9ba618" (Unpack failed (c:1057728,u:0,b:0)) (Suspended) "qn-00201-hyvlmdrid01-0226400a-2.steam-content-dnld-1.qwilted-cds.cqloud.com/cache4-atl1.steamcontent.com/depot/1085661/chunk/e9f94c282b2f74bceb1c84f7bde955c42f9ba618"

[2022-09-20 10:27:37] Failed unpacking chunk "e9f94c282b2f74bceb1c84f7bde955c42f9ba618" from "qn-00201-hyvlmdrid01-0226400a-2.steam-content-dnld-1.qwilted-cds.cqloud.com/cache4-atl1.steamcontent.com/depot/1085661/chunk/e9f94c282b2f74bceb1c84f7bde955c42f9ba618" (Unpack failed (c:1057728,u:0,b:0))

There are a few more errors about write gaps in the files HTTP invalid responses, CRC check failed, Received 404 (Not Found) responses, and more info about corrupted chunks of data. I've checked my network connection and it's fine--tried with and without a VPN connection because someone mentioned that in a google search. Something is obviously wrong when it tries to unpack, and I can see all of the downloaded files in the downloading folder, but Steam just doesn't recognize it and keeps redownloading, verifying and asking me to resume.

you might have done this..checked your antivirus program false/true content? and running all applications as administrator.

Yep. Running Steam as Admin, and disabled McAfee's Scanner and Firewall temporarily. I didn't know what to do about the HTTP invalid or the 404 stuff in the log, so I unplugged the router for a bit and plugged it back in. Flushed the DNS as well. Re-doing everything again to see if that did something.

400-451 HTTP// error codes are client errors,404 is "normaly" caused by URL's which can be redirected, there should also be a explanation if this is permanent or temporary, there is a long list of thingys that can change (corrupt) a URL..upgrades,new modules, plugins ect..since you have moved your data back and forth a wee bit this could also corrupt files,i had a similar issue with killing floor 2 over 500 hrs in game and then bang jeeze, did a reroll back to before the update lost a chunk of exp but my game and inventory where back to normal state, since Tripwire is not Bungie i would check if this is the case in Destiny 2,good luck dude.
I'm having a similar issue, every time i launch the game it verifies, goes to 100%, then says i have unreadable game content and needs a reinstall, error code beagle. I've installed on multiple different drives, verified content multiple times, done sfc/dism, and it still does it every time so I have no idea wtf to do now short of reinstalling windows and i'm not doing that for one game since everything else is running great (cyberpunk, bf2042, humankind, etc)

What of the Steam client Settings, Downloads, Steam Library Folders, 3-dot square icon, Repair Folder?

I never even knew that was there! Fortunately (or unfortunately, for troubleshooting purposes) The problem just randomly went away, I installed a 4th time and when it still had the same issue I gave up and went to bed. I woke up the next day and ran the game again just to see what would happen, and it worked fine. If it comes up again I'll try that repair option and report back.

A guy having the same issue renamed this Destiny 2 folder in AppData (can just rename the folder to something like Destiny 2 backup). he said it stored crash logs from D2. If you don't have hidden files and folders enabled in Windows on your system, just open Windows search and then type in Run and open the Run app. in the dialogue, just type %appdata% and hit enter. This will dump into the Roaming folder. Look for that D2 folder and if you see one there rename it. Then go up one Directory and go into the Local folder and look for a D2 folder there and if you see one do the same thing. Then test boot the game and see if that fixes it for you.

if that doesn't work, another guy who was getting Beagle errors on boot and then crashing replaced his RAM and it went away after that. i know you tested your memory, but maybe just try re-seating the modules in their DIMM slots and see if that magically fixes it. If not and your are only using two sticks, swap both into the adjacent DIMM slots. Memtest should have also checked the DIMM slots on the motherboard as part of that test, but couldn't hurt to try it at least.

Returning to this thread, it was all fixed by taking out my RAM and putting it back in. I did numerous tests on the RAM, all came back fine. I didn't even change the order of the RAM--I literally pulled it out and put it right back in. And the game suddenly updated properly and worked. The RAM wasn't faulty; it wasn't loose; it was working just fine. I'm going to chalk this one up to a freak accident.

An interesting case of slightly broken contacts leading to severe system breakdown and corruption. Maybe consider repairing the OS later using dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth followed by sfc /scannow in the Admin Powershell or Admin Command prompt terminal as good measure.

It reminds me of a story once where a guy found that multiple pre-built laptops with suspiciously slow NVMe SSDs were slow because they were not properly seated with sufficient force to complete all pin contacts between the drive and the slot. As a result, the drives only had access to PCIe x1 lane bandwidth, as opposed to all x4 lanes. Reseating those drives solved the problem, but it was nonetheless a peculiar tale that seemed loosely relevant to this matter.
