I'm new to the Steam/D2 community
I have no clue how to invite someone to a group, or how to open a party for voice chat. My 2 friends came with me to PC from Xbox and we are lost.

For instance, today I ran a small NF with matchmaking; the people I played with were pretty good, but I couldn't figure out how to invite them to my game or start a party with them to have better communication.

Anyone feel like helping me out?

PC doesn't have 'parties' in the sense that Xbox/PS does. You can join the team channel and hitting whatever key you have mapped for push to talk, or you can have the mic always on. You can invite recent players by checking the roster tab right after a PvP game or from the after action report.

As an addendum to my last comment, you can look in LFG channels and forums to have a team ready before starting. My group talks over discord while we play. If you're looking to do that with randoms, chances are slim.

Use another program for talking (Like Discord or Teamspeak)

You cannot play with people on other platforms, only the data gets transferred (dumb, i know)

To add people, look up they're gamertags (or view profile)

How do you get groups together without a party?

So how do you invite someone from the LFG forum to your game?

In Destiny 2's in-game chat, type /id, that will show your ID. You can highlight it with shift and the cursor keys, copy/paste etc.
Give that ID to other players, who will then use /join and use your id to join your fireteam.

Add each other on Steam and you'll have the option to send an invite to them in the roster tab.

Damn, so you have to add randoms as friends in order to game with them?

Can anyone recommend a LFG discord for PC? On Xbox I am a part of the Tower discord and can find groups really fast for anything. Does PC have something along those lines for Discord?

you can type "/id" ingame and copy/paste your id, they do with "/join id_number"

check the official Destiny Discord, or go on Disboard and look at Destiny LFG Communities, I've seen people even on this forum page request an LFG

Edit: In most servers there should be self-roles set up, there is even be a PC role too, react with the emoji that gives you the PC role and it should unlock a PC LFG channel.

You would give them what is usually referred to as your "join code", which is actually your Steam id.

Type /id into the text chat in Destiny and it will give you your Steam id.
Give that to the person that you want to be able to to join your game.
They can then type /join 1234567890 (assuming that was your id) to join your game.

This is the Discord server that everyone uses: https://discord.gg/xGRZRh
