The second is a set of 'seasons' that release throughout the year, leading up to the next big expansion. The seasons contain short storylines that build up to the next expansion, they also have their own new activities, exotics, etc. As of The Final Shape, 'seasons' have been renamed 'Episodes'.
For example, 'The Witch Queen' launched in Feb 2022 with a story campaign, and then throughout the year up until Feb 2023, we had Seasons of the Risen, Haunted, Plunder, and Seraph, continuing and expanding on the story up towards the release of 'Lightfall'.
To access the seasonal content, you need a season pass. During the length of the season, players can earn season pass ranks, with free rewards, and pass holder rewards, so that is an additional incentive. The passes can be obtained in one of three ways,
1 - Buy in-game from Eververse, when each new season releases,
2 - Buy the deluxe/annual pass edition of the game, this comes with all of that year's passes,
3 - The standard version of the game will generally also come with a single pass, for whichever season is currently active when you buy it.
So, The Final Shape annual pass edition contains the following,
- 'The Final Shape' the current main DLC expansion,
- Passes for Episodes: Echoes, Revenant and Heresy ('Episodes' are the new name for this game year's slightly longer seasons). As above, these can be bought in Eververse when each Episode releases.
- The catalyst (upgrade) for the exotic fusion rifle, Tesselation. This will be available to all Final Shape owners when Episode: Revenant launches, so it is temporarily exclusive to the annual pass.
- Final Shape Dungeon Key - this will give access to two upcoming Dungeons, and apart from the annual pass edition, can only be bought from Eververse,
- Lastly, you get some minor stuff - an ornament (skin) for Tesselation, a Sparrow, and a drop of some in-game consumables each episode. the first two I believe will be 100% exclusive to the annual pass, they will not become available from another source.
It therefore doesn't contain any story content that is not available separately.
Child version:
- Annual pass includes every episode pass (3 in total) which has EXTRA content; you can still play through the echoes story line without the upgraded pass.
- You also get the dungeon key which lets you do the latest dungeon. (about 20$ in silver if you buy it separately)
-You get Tessellation instantly and a cool gold skin for it (the exotic fusion rifle)
-You get 3 special drops which has some high tier materials
It includes time sensitive content.
The main story is (at least nominally) permanent and will always be playable.
The "Episodes" (or Seasons, to use the older term) include an additional story that's only available during a given 3 month period (or for a year if you own the Annual pass). Once the content year has ended, those stories go away and are no longer playable.
Thank you so much, I really appreciate you taking the time to explain it to me. I gave you unicorn award :)
Thanks for the reply :)
