Seems like a bug, I see now that the bungie forums are full of threads where players had their names changed.

I had nothing offensive either, it was just changed

You got in? Past hour all i've gotten was servers down
Frostwyn Aug 13, 2024 @ 11:01am
Assuming your in-game name was "fuktig", I can guess why they changed it. Bungie doesn't like adult words, so having "♥♥♥" in your name would probably get it changed eventually.

If it was not, then I just assume another bungo bug.

My name was changed, too... Any clue if this will get fixed, or are we gonna have to change our names back to what they were??

I can't even change back, it tells me that I can only change my name once.

Whats even more funny is that unless you have already changed your name once, you should have a name change token, but when bungie changes your name, they use that token so that you can't change the name yourself..

My name was also changed from the.angelhunter to guardian.

What's also odd is that bungie's website suggest the name "the.angelhunter" at the moment, cause it's also my steam name. So that name is against their rules, but I should totally use it at the same time

Names didn't get changed because of rule violations.

They got changed because of a bug with crossplay resetting crossplay status.

That would make more sense, but bungie support currently claims rule violation across the board when replying in the help forums at the bungie forum

Not a bug and nothing to do with the maintenance.

If your name was changed to the default 'Guardian' name, then it's because someone reported it and Bungie found it violated their policies.

It doesn't matter how long you had it, if it violates the policies, then it will be removed at some point. It was removed recently because someone reported it and Bungie found it violated their policies.

If you have any name changes left, you can change it again. If you don't, then you're stuck with the default Guardian name.

Review the Bungie Name guide for more information. For security reasons, Bungie will never tell you why a name was removed.

Also, please remember the following noted at the end of the Bungie Name guide:

Bungie reserves the right to moderate and remove players in our games and websites for any reason at our own discretion.

Generic boiler plate from overworked/unpayed Community Managers.

It makes no sense with the amount of people it happened to, with some having simply their actual name.
