Purpose of cover?

Why even have structures to hide behind if enemy splash damage goes right through? Makes no sense, cover is utterly useless.

It's not utterly useless, you can get splash from the side, if it's going through you might need to back up a bit. Different objects have different abilities as cover as well. It can take a bit to figure out what cover to use and how.

it also helps prevent you from getting absolutely beamed by the sniper enemies

cover is very useful specially on endgame contents, titan main abilities is making cover and its very nice

Wouldn't that also apply to games that have big maps and the opposing players have explosives? In an open area you'd get shot down by players with bullets.

I find almost annoying when Unstoppable champions Cabal Taken with shields can blast a major blast through world enviroment and protections like a wall for example. And for that you need to stay far distant to stay safe.
