Extra note: Destiny 2 is not played on any servers. It uses a hybird peer - peer network connection.
We're a mix of 6 players from the European and African continents experiencing the same issue. We'll call it quits for now and try again later. Just wanted to see if anybody else was experiencing something similar.

This is misleading and intentionally misrepresentation of the truth. If the game cannot authenticate to the servers within a time period ( which happens frequently for some depending on the traffic, and reliability of the servers responsible ) it will boot people with a generic network error blaming the user. This has been an issue with destiny 2 ever since launch. It has nothing to do with your connection to your fireteam.
What you say isn't technically incorrect, but you're intentionally sidestepping the truth.
Have you tried clearing your cache and restarting your platform as well as your networking device? The Excision activity can cause issues due to the high number of players and events taking place in that activity.
Sometimes a simple restart of your platform and your networking device can clear up issues. I recommend you try this.
It wasn't just the Excision activity though. We also tried launching a Raid (RoN) and the GM as well, but eventually all got kicked out not long after. Hence my query here on Steam.
