There's no RNG, just distance to target and damage resistance that others might have going through buffs (Woven Mail, Frost Armour, etc)
100 res isn't going to do much in pvp unless on a Titan. Better to shoot for 30 or 70 sweetspots. Increased damage on spades is because of it's proc? Dunno. Weapons have fixed damage at optimal range based on their archetype.
As for not getting any kills, we all get farmed at some point. Learn from your mistakes is the best advice I can give for Crucible. Is it fair and balanced? Nope.
And then you should look for rolls which help with range, targeting and flinch, like dynamic sway reduction, tap the trigger, zen moment, keep away etc. Only go for damage perks after that, since most of them require getting a kill first, which is the problem right now.
And PVP modes like Control with teams of 6 are easier to work with, because you are not 1v1 all the time. Maybe even try the Hardware modes when available (no grenade, melee, super).
And then expand from there... try out hand cannons w. good rolls. Use aimed shots instead of just panic-spamming fire.
I haven't tried PVP since TFS, so not sure if prismatic messes with everything.
