Are hand cannons balanced in pvp?
I genuinely cannot tell, cause it feels like the cheesiest weapon to fight against. Point and click and everything just dies, close range, long range, don't matter.

I play with auto rifles, and it feels like they're the absolute worst weapon to carry into pvp. Is it just me or what?

EDIT: I got outbreak perfected. Not an auto rifle, but often just feels like it works better-ish I guess? Idk. Autos feel like they're built like close range weapons.

Then just use Legendary ones, save your exotic slot for something else or just use another Legendary
Doesn't it make more sense to have the main weapon you use be an exotic?
Most exotics can be outperformed by legendaries

Well in real life full auto is only ever really used for cover fire. Ask any soldier that has served in a combat zone and they wills ay they used semi auto or the burst setting on their rifles.

Yea would be a cool feature for a gun though in game.
It really depends on what works best for you. Some people really like hand cannons and use them a LOT hence why they probably land most shots.

Since Destiny Day 1 Hand Canons are OP hilarious considered how easy u can aim with them 2-3 and u are Dead while ur AR or Pulse Rifle needs half the Mag PvP is and was never balanced in this Game

Strafing helps a LOT when against single shot guns :PinkContent:

for auto in PVP, try the "high impact" frames with lots of range and use flinch rounds. It is not elegant but it sorta works in PVP. Also the players with lots of kills are very likely using a mouse to aim, which makes headshots far easier.

you need to maximize range on your rolls

Most maps are designed around Hand Cannon use. They also have the highest bullet magnetism.

They have never required skill. And if it's users were actually as good as in their own minds they'd be a CS Global elite with a desert eagle. Reality is most of them can't aim in any other video game. So its clearly the weapon class.

100 % agree i know someone who is CS Elite and this guy is crazy in PvP but yeah Most Handcanon Users have no AIM and aim assist should be turned of in Osiris at least

It's a matter of playstyle. I like auto rifles. My problem is that my auto rifle feels like it's damage falls off when shooting anything that isn't like 2 feet away from my face. So I end up dealing like 9 damage per shot at medium range and beyond, meanwhile a hand cannon seems to function just as fine. It's like a more controllable sniper rifle.

Using Quicksilver, even with 100 stability, I feel like recoil becomes barely manageable at medium range, and damage falls off quickly.

Wish I could at least slap a counterbalance on it so I could at least have a more predictable recoil pattern. Being 7 points away from having 95 straight line upwards recoil angle sucks.

Go actually use a hand cannon in PvP.

Please.

Then come back and tell us how broken it was and how you were one shotting peeps from 300 miles.

You might find your perceptions are wrong.
Update: Y'know, I was thinking "if HC's are really all that balanced, why does everybody use them so much?"

Tried one myself, and got my question answered.

Long story short, I got tired of being outperformed with my Breakneck so I swapped out for a random hand cannon in my inventory called Better Devils.

I'm not a "pro" pvp player. Not bad, but not good either. But even I get kills more easily with a hand cannon than I do with an auto rifle.

Hand cannon feels so incredibly easy to use that it's honestly sad how uncomfortable using auto rifles is. I genuinely cannot use my favourite weapon archetype reliably in pvp because it just gets stomped on by hand cannon and pulse rifle meta.

If I had a dollar for every hand cannon in the kill feed I'd have enough to buy another expansion.

It's not "unbeatable" by any means, but it's literally everywhere in pvp. It's almost guaranteed that at least 2 people in any given lobby will have a hand cannon.

Its just how you use them. Peek shooting works and your in cover alot, which you should prioritize in PvP. They do have good performance across diff ranges. But SMGs ran crucible for awhile. So they can always change the meta with nerfs and buffs. What is actually good is a wider range than you think. Mainly the D2 pvp crowd thinks they are the "skill" weapon, and that's why they have high usage.
Outbreak is good because it uses AR recoil. Most sidearms in their range have the lowest TTK. Read Death is a 2 burst. Just use what you are good with. Also nothing is actually balanced in D2, cmon. Thats why we play it.

Auto rifles and pulse rifles are literally the top of the usage rates right now. Yes hand-cannons have a lot of aim assist but they literally have worse time to kill values then almost everything else in the game and if you miss a shot your ttk tanks super hard.
