Can new players still play through the entire story?
My kid wanted to play and I was going to make a new toon to play with him. I haven't played in several years. I logged onto my main toon and felt lost.

SO basically the first few campaigns are vaulted although there are a few missions that allow you to somewhat understand the story line. Beyond light and after have full campaigns.

if you want to get the whole lore you'll have to watch a video

Ok cool, thanks for replies. That will be good enough, my kid really gets into the lore of games. We will go ahead and get the game downloaded for him. Thanks again.

As someone who only started playing a couple of months ago, I feel you can get enough of an idea with the DLCs still available...you still end up hearing about things or people that make little sense sometimes. The "catch-up" timeline missions also add a little more context for some stuff (you can access them from the top right of the director screen)

ok cool, thank you. Things have changed a lot in a few years since I played. So many options from the Director now, it was confusing lol. But you got me pointed in the right direction.
Please don't call it a toon.. man it's not the year 2000

I'm old, I'm allowed lol.

What do gamers call their "toons" now a days?

World of Warcraft players still use toon, you're fine.

Characters now, I think some games call them Heros
How old are you? I'm 72.
Toons is what I used before this game.

There are cinematics in the Timeline, 3 to be exact that sum up the entire story. Open Director, click the timeline upper right hand corner, then use the arrows to go left to the beginning of the timeline, hover over the ones that play the cinematics to tell the story.

Additionally, yes you can also play the campaigns associated with each era but it's explained fairly decently in the cinematics as is.

Hello, yeah the game changed so much since then and has become a monetization hole if i am honest. I have close to 1500 hrs, all the dlc up except final shape for reference. I can suggest that if your child does enjoy the game and wants to pursue dlc content, please look out for sales. The expansions are usually on steep discounts (even the most recent).

Side note: Sadly past the witch queen dlc, the expansions became rushed and more of a cash grab then anything else, pushing players out. (reference SteamCharts.com to see the decline). But yeah the game is very hard for new players and old returning players and just pushes you to spend left and right (just be aware)

No, DLC is paid and you were never able to play through the whole campaign for free. You had to pay either way.

While the initial RED WAR CAMPAIGN & the first 2 DLCs have been vaulted..

you can pick up the LEGENDARY edition which includes:

Destiny 2: Legendary Edition (Base game required) includes:
Destiny 2: Shadowkeep DLC
Destiny 2: Forsaken DLC
Destiny 2: Beyond Light DLC

while they are currently expensive on STEAM ($75), you can pick them up on CDKEYS for about $15 (https://www.cdkeys.com/destiny-2-legendary-edition-pc-steam)

you can also get the WITCH QUEEN DLC for $5 (https://www.cdkeys.com/destiny-2-the-witch-queen-pc-dlc-steam) LIGHTFALL DLC there for $15 (https://www.cdkeys.com/destiny-2-lightfall-pc-dlc-steam) and the lastest dlc FINAL SHAPE is $32 (https://www.cdkeys.com/destiny-2-the-final-shape-pc-dlc-steam)

Hope that is helpful...

I disagree. I haven't spent a dime besides the DLCs.
