Strikes and Battlegrounds are literally the same thing.
The Bungie dev himself who makes them literally said so on Stream yesterday. He literally said the phrase "Battlegrounds are pretty much Strikes".
I would like something like Venus Strike, Aksor or Moon Taniks strikes. Pretty fun and interesting.
All kidding aside I actually already figured out how to solve this problem. Suppose there are 12 vanguard strikes, then assign each player an integer list with 12 entries. Every time a player loads into a strike add 1 to each entry, then zero out the entry corresponding to the strike they get loaded into. When 4 players are assigned a vanguard strike just add their lists, and use that to generate the probability of being assigned xyz strike.
So, you couldn't handle it, and here you are putting on the brave face.
Go listen to it. Even he can't really say what the difference between a Battleground and a Strike are, outside of the name.
If you're so smart, maybe you could enlighten the guy who designs them into what is so different.
Hint : They're not different, they're literally the same thing. A Battleground is just a Strike. You go in, walk arena to arena, kill mobs, kill a big baddy at the end.
Can I be tired too. Ten years playing Destiny was exaustive.
Their formula (it's a job, work!) It's kind weird since the Seasons thing (c'mon, episodes also seasons).
Well and most importantly, why people dislike them so much, and especially why they are disliked in the Vanguard ops playlist, is because players have already played them during the season. Imagine a default season lasting 3 months, they release in this season 3 battlegrounds, and while you farm this season, merchant reputation, etc. you clear these battlegrounds dozens, hundreds of times. And when the season is over and you start Vanguard ops, what do you see there? These damn 3 battlegrounds that you can't stand anymore, and now they're here?
Other problems are that in strikes, about 90% of the action takes place in new locations unique to those strikes. There are exceptions, but most of the time this is true. Most of the battlegrounds take place either in patrol or in old locations where the player has already been. In the newer battlegrounds they have tried to get rid of this problem, but still not completely. Warmind Battlegrounds take you to new locations eventually, but even these new locations repeat between these particular Battlegrounds - always a room with lasers at the end, then a room with a boss with the same mechanics. It's boring.
That problem with repetitive mechanics is also a factor. Risen Battlegrounds always have spears to kill Savathun with, Difiant Battlegrounds have a field where you don't take damage and have to throw orbs at the boss, and so on.
But they promised during the stream that the new Battlegrounds will be devoid of these problems, so we'll see.
TLDR: Most of the time Battlegrounds events take place in old locations or these locations are repeated between battle rounds, the mechanics in them are repeated, they take too long ti beat, by the time Battlegrounds get into the Vanguard playlist the player has already played enough of them while farming the season.
1. We've been playing the Arms Dealer for years. Don't get me wrong, it's fun, but it's old and played out.
2. Battlegrounds are also in new locations and Strikes in patrol zone. Arms Dealer is literally in the EDZ and you can walk most of it in the patrol zone. And then you get Defiant Battlegrounds : 100% inaccessible in the Patrol zone. 100% new stuff. There's no where else I can hop into the Ascendant Plane to end up in a Pyramid ship or Cabal prison ship.
So both your points are completely wrong. Battlegrounds and Strikes are literally the same thing.
I mean, some of us are from the Atari/Coleco generation. Venture was one of my favorite games. It fits in a few kilobytes. All it is is repetition.
If the gameplay loop is fun, repetition isn't a problem. MMOs strive on giving you rewards for repeating content.
If that's not for you and you're more of a "Interactive movie!" type gamer, MMOs just might not be the genre for you.
