Low fps with 'high end' pc
Hello everyone,
Can some1 explain why I have low fps in D2? I'm well above the requirements for the game,
everything is updated. I don't understand.. Ingame I get around 140fps, but when I watch tv (stream) via the website/app of my provider I get around 50fps... Imo 140fps is already pretty low with this rig (if I'm correct}, anybody got the same issue?

My specs:
CPU; i7 8700k (upgrade incomming)
GPU: RTX 4070ti
MOBO: ROG Maximus X Hero (LGA 1151)
PSU: Corsair RM1000x
Monitor: 2x Samsung G7 27''

I did check a couple of times but cpu is not at 100% workload, neither are the temps indicating that they are in heavy stress situations, the temp of my cpu is around 55-60°C

I know that my cpu is old, but I imagine its still strong enough for games like D2.

Checking overall CPU is meaningless.

Check per core usage. If you have a or two cores pegged, you're running into a problem where D2 just wants faster cores.

My CPU is 16 threads. If I start a single threaded benchmark, it'll sit at like 7% usage. Because that's 1/16th of my cpu. But that's 100% usage for that thread and the benchmark can't do better because of it unless I get a cpu with better single core performance.
Thanks for this advice! In that case you can use a multithread code for some steam games to use every core/thread u have, would that even work for D2?

also means you using Low speed ram with that mobo... and prob a old SSD
When you dont know anything about technical issues, dont post.

@OP

Run https://www.testufo.com/ in your browser (two tabs) one on each monitor. If it's stuttering that means there's smt with the refresh rates.

I know I'm getting bottlenecked, thanks sherlock!
I don't complain, I merely asking for suggestions/ideas/solutions, cuz in other games I get better/decent fps which are more demanding than D2 is, Ram is on 3200mhz so I dont get where you get your stupid assumptions.. its ONLY Destiny 2 and not Arma 3 you know ...

3200mhz ram is a major bottle neck. MAJOR. even cl10 3200 here is 15ns slower then cl14 3733, 20ns slower then 4000c16, on x570 - so eol of ddr4.
High end in general refers to contemporary pc's at the current timeline.
Your pc is below average, period. topic title of thread is simply a lie. Uninformed stupidity.
Your platform has also been thru several bios patches by intel that reduces performance.
Time to sell it, can put the gpu in a new one, but your probably going to need to sell it to get rid of the pc to offer something of value.

Hi.

i7 8700k does not need more then 3200 MHZ. Infact for his CPU 3200 MHZ is the sweetspot...

Are you confusing with ryzen CPU's that benefit from higher ram speed?

That's a pretty significant drop. Sounds almost like the streaming app is somehow stealing focus or changing your refresh rate. Have you tried changing the game to fullscreen windowed? Or if it's on that currently, try fullscreen. Also turn off vsync if that's enabled.

I could understand some occasional frame dips from playing video, but it shouldn't drop you to a consistent 50fps. The game really isn't that demanding and it's still on the same engine from seven years ago.
Its indeed a significant drop.. I tried to put D2 on a much higher priority but that didnt seemed to help either, I know I have to upgrade my cpu but that can't be the only issue, because I get better/decent fps in other games thats more demanding than D2

CPU should be fine tbh. I used to play on an 8700 (not even the unlocked K model), gtx 1070 and didn't have any issues like that. I still think something is stealing focus or messing with your refresh rate. Dual monitor setup? It only happens when you're streaming video? Try turning off hardware acceleration on your web browser or turn it on if it's off. If it's a Windows Store app that you're streaming from, it could just be a quirk of that app. Check your monitor settings when it happens to see if refresh rate is what it's supposed to be.

Main monitor is connected with DP at 240hz, 2nd monitor only with hdmi 60hz, both on 2560x1440. It only happens when I stream/watch tv from the website of my internetprovider, they also have an app in Windows Store, but both take the same amount of fps, maybe the app is a bit more intense, which I then switch from app to website. I just noticed it cuz I want to watch the Europa Qualifiers, I'll try turning off hardware acceleration, maybe that'll help.
Thanks!

4070TI not even high end but quite mid

Oh , 4070 Ti kinda mid??? 4070Ti is better and faster card then 3090 Ti.....is 3090 Ti high end card??? And that si not my opinion then from benchmark site....4070Ti is top 10 Best GPU atm....so dont talk ♥♥♥♥ and go to bad, you think high -end gpu is only 4090 and 4080 ti. BTW for OP, dude go replace CPU, with this CPU you cant use 30% power of GPU.

just don't stream tv while gaming. probably more than half of your cores allocated to the stream. you can set that lower or just turn it off

Definitely sounds like it's dropping you down to your secondary monitor refresh rate of 60hz. Try manually setting your refresh rates of your displays in the Windows display settings if you haven't already and resetting your nvidia driver settings to default. Can be hard to narrow down why it's doing this, but it's usually because of weird Windows quirks and how it handles dual display setups.

Could also just be Destiny thinking it's on your secondary display when it's not. Maybe try hitting Alt+Enter to toggle in and out of windowed/fullscreen next time it happens. Also make sure Destiny is running in fullscreen mode in the in-game video settings.

You should have the same cables for each monitor.

Having 1 HDMI 60hz and 1 dp 240 will cause video stutter..

Or you might limit this stutter if you change your main monitor refreshrate to 120/seconth to 60hz and then game FPS to 80-90.

Bruh... Whats with these garbage suggestions? If you dont know what the problem is, why are you posting to begin with?

The issue is clear to me that he is having issues due to his refreshrates differenting... Not because his computer isnt up to par. His computer is more then fine.

I have to say, that my 2nd monitor is in my iGPU from my mobo, dont know if that would make a difference tho. Would it help if I turn off my 2nd monitor when playing D2? Tho I use DIM on my 2nd monitor when I start D2, but then again, I can use my phone for that. Also, If I put my 2nd monitor with a DP in my GPU and put them both on 240hz, would that make a difference? It's all worth a try imo to be honest.
