How to disable 'forceful' mission starts?
I decided to return to D2 after several years of pause. And I am trying to play campaign in chronological order. But every time I launch D2 I get bombarded with cinematics of the latest dlc. And now it forcefully sent me to Dream City.

Is there a way to disable this behaviour? I wish to experience this game on my own terms and pace.

No, you can't. The developers for some crazy reason decided that they know better what the player will want to play. And if in the case of the seasonal mission it is somehow justified (it's the only way to get a seasonal artifact), I can't understand all the other missions. So, you'll either have to complete these missions or just cancel them and come back to them later.

As far as I remember, it should happen three times now - the first time the game launches you into the first mission of the Lightfall dlc, then into the first mission of Season of the Wish, and the last time into the hub location of the Into the Light event.

Just back out of the mission once you're loaded in. You can always run it from the Director when you're ready.

This was also partly because this community can often share one braincell, and before this behavior, people would flood the forums with "how do I start this season?" or "How do I get the seasonal artifact?" etc

So to stop all that, you just get put into the seasonal start to begin with and then if you want, you can exit and go back to it at a later time

Long story short though, there is no reason NOT to do the intro season missions, as tedious as it may seem, because getting access to your seasonal artifact is pretty important

Why is the defense force so opposed to the concept of developers not forcing players into a mission against their will right from the login screen? I am replaying the old DLC's in chronological order and I can begin them whenever I want and its a nice, smooth, immersive experience. besides a couple of continuity issues that have arisen purely because of the devs forcing us to start the current content first, like characters in the past DLC's talking like they don't know who The Witness is, which wouldn't have been an issue if they did not force us into the current stories first.

Forcing the Player into the current stories against their will from the login screen is bad. Period. With no valid arguments for it being a good thing. They even have a timeline in the destinations tab.

yes the new player on boarding sucks. but, the story isn't in the game. idk not worth playing D2 for an over arching story. also you're wasting a ton of time by not getting the artifact from the 1st seasonal story mission. like until they flat out just give the artifact by default, yes you should definitely do the 1st seasonal story mission.

I'm not against Bungie stopping that, I just realize how miniscule the issue is if they don't.

The crappy new player experience is a much larger problem than possibly having to back out of a mission the first time you start the game in a season.

Well, there are people who want to get normal story experience. And if you are bombarded with story plots from different dlc, especially with spoilers -- that's bad.

Besides, they could add another pop-out screen with a big button "Start latest season" or something along those lines.

They could, wait, they had a button to start it. There were a lot more "how do I start this" post on here then than there are like this one now.
