Lightfall DLC
Hi guys, sorry to bother you, I am coming back to D2 after awhile of being away, I own all the DLC's except Lightfall, I see the reviews and they are so negative, I don't really feel like buying it, what am I missing out on by not purchasing the dlc? Do I still get to do the raid content and can I still lvl up my gear to the current item level?
Thank you in advance!

Without Lightfall you won't have access to the Strand subclass, the Root of Nightmares raid (Crota's End is f2p however), or any of Lightfall's exotics. You also can't play Trials, as that requires the current expansion. If you wanted to play Lightfall's two dungeons, you can buy access separately, from Eververse.

DLC doesn't affect the power caps, it can make it faster to achieve by offering more powerful/pinnacle rewards, but the actual cap levels are the same for everyone. It is pretty much irrelevant right now also, as part of the Into the Light f2p event, which will lead us up into The Final Shape in June, anyone can pick up a set of gear at the 1,810 absolute hardcap so you can play the new activities.

You can get to the power cap regardless of which content you own but generally speaking it will take you longer to do so if you don't own the current expansion/season as thwts where most of the pinnacle rewards are. All of the expansion raids require ownership of the relevant expansion to access them with the reprised D1 raids and the new Pantheon activity being F2P.

Thanks for the reply, is the only content worth doing the Lightfall content?

Lightfall is negatively reviewed becaues of it's absolute terrible story. It's meant to be "the DLC before the final DLC" but it's awfully put together. The "new characters" are bleak, terribly designed and actually really obnoxious (Nimbus should not have been added). The subclass is fun, but the light subclasses are just better anyway. It's honestly not worth it.

I only suggest purchasing Lightfall at a heavy discount ($30 for Expansion + annual pass is reasonable) because the only decent part is Strand. If you're not interested in Strand, just skip it. I have had more fun playing Onslaught than I did playing any of the missions in the Lightfall Campaign.

Lightfall's campaign is as awful as everyone says.

The entire thing is a glorified tutorial for strand centered around the two worst characters in D2: Osirus and Nimbus. The most baffling thing is that the campaign's one good character just gets benched in favor of Nimbus who just never stops spewing out dumb quips and cringy dialogue. Nimbus is simply the most generic collection of gamer and internet stereotypes thrown into a blender. If you try to make a character appeal to everyone, it appeals to no one.

Osirus on the other hand was built up as this complete badass in D1 and then when we finally get to meet him in D2.....he's just an inept fool. And he continues to be an inept fool for all of D2. Maybe Lightfall was supposed to be some kind of a redemption arc for this guy but all he seems to do is spout quazi-mystical mumbo jumbo about the Veil without ever explaining anything.

The main problem with the campaign's gameplay is that it teases you with Strand for the entire thing. You get to play with it for a few minutes and then the game takes it away. Over and over and over and over again. The entire thing would have been way more fun if the first few missions were the strand tutorial and then you got to use it for the rest of the campaign. I really hope whoever designed the campaign missions and wrote the story for Lightfall never get to touch the franchise ever again.

Strand, Tormentors, and Root of Nightmares are the only good things in Lightfall.

I totally understand your point and what you're saying, I think I might hold off on it, especially cause the new dlc is about to come out aswell, I might go for that one
