Returning player question
So I played the crap out of this back when it was first released on pc all the way up to Forsaken. I saw recent videos and got kinda nostalgic and wanted to play again. But then when I went to see what DLC I had missed and what I would have to buy to get all the content, the price tag was $564.86 (usd)!! So I guess my question is, what all is necessary to Jump back in today and enjoy myself without having to spend a laughably absurd amount of money on DLC?

The DLC's go on sale so often that all 3rd party steam key resellers have em for laughably low prices. I went through one and got em all for like 30$ total. (not advertising, just my experience)

You're looking at the overall cost of the expansions alongside the bundles on Steam, which is not indicative of how much they actually cost because steam is unable to distinguish between the bundles and expansions under DLC and counts them twice over. Many of the expansions are bundled together.

To be totally caught up you need:
- Armory Collection: This includes the 30th Anniversary and the Forsaken Pack. (if you already own Forsaken, then you just need the 30th Anniversary Pack instead)
- Legacy Collection 2023: This includes Shadowkeep, Beyond Light, and The Witch Queen.
- Lightfall + Annual Pass Edition: This includes Lightfall (the current expansion), the Lightfall Dungeon Key, and the current Annual Pass. Annual Pass ends in June, but you have until then to play through all the content.
- You also need to spend $20 in the in-game store to obtain the Witch Queen Dungeon Key to get access to Spire of the Watcher and Duality dungeons as that is no longer bundled anywhere else.

This amounts to $209.97 without any sales or discounts. The DLCs often goes on sale for way cheaper though. If you're coming back for the Into the Light update tomorrow, the stuff that comes with that update is completely free.

IMO you don't need all of the DLCs to just play the free stuff. There are three Destiny 1 raids reprised that are completely free (King's Fall, Crota's End and Vault of Glass), and one dungeon (Prophecy).
