To be fair, I'm just playing it while waiting for The First Descendant.
I know what they ARE, lol, I get all that.
I've just never seen anyone be that...crushed to learn that this particular, vague and pretty much irrelevant aspect, is dependant on paid content. So it was more of a direct question to OP on why it was so special.
Anyway, rank 6 can be achieved through seasonal challenges that come out next week if there are no other DLC related tasks which I haven't think to have seen.
I never played Destiny 2 before, never interested me until I played The First Descendant Open Beta which is 60% Warframe (a game that I did 100% of it before stopping to allow more content to gather) and 40% Destiny 2. I already know everything about Warframe, so I gave Destiny 2 a chance because, learning about Destiny 2 would give me idea how to play The First Descendant.
Right now I have 31 hours of Destiny 2 and it's more than enough to see the game is boring and without purpose. There's nothing to do but reaching max level in the game, like reaching Rank 11, reaching GS 2k, and stuff like that... It's confusing as hell, even worse than Warframe, and Warframe is a game with 0 intuitiveness, but eventually I made my way around to understand how a few things work.
The reason I'm playing the game is to learn about it so I have a head start in The First Descendant, but knowing no one would ever reach 100% of the game without paying is just sad. It's even more sad when your game have pathetic people defending such sad actions.
So... Since I can't do the only purpose of the game, there's no purpose to play the game, this is simply to understand. Tomorrow the developers of The First Descendant will announce something in Summer Game Fest (together with a lot of developers that I follow and play their game), so maybe they'll announce the release date.
Anyways, if you like the game, it's fine for me, I don't care, you can have fun playing it. I'm not a stupid person who create imaginary rules and definitions to say if you should or shouldn't play the game, even if there's no purpose for me.
By the way, the price for the DLC is so stupid that is a whole minimum wage, so talking about "brokeboi" isn't the case, the company is greedy:

I hope The First Descendant gives you all the purpose you desire!
(Does look pretty cool!)
While I do agree that Bungie, the company in question, is greedy. I will say that you do not need the Silver Packages or Bundles, as most are cosmetic and trivial at best.
Also, the above image you posted is old, they recently condensed down the DLC's into a single pack (Destiny 2 Legacy Collection 2024) which includes everything up to Lightfall.
Either way, I hope you have fun with First Descendant.
But, my experience playing the Open Beta, I had fun, more fun than Destiny 2, I'll try and see how far I can keep having fun, maybe I do 100% like Warframe.
Wrong. Utterly wrong. I've carried lots of rank 10/11 in various activities and they're entirely useless. Of course not everyone, but a good portion of them are. Very simply a lot of people just get to those high ranks by playing raids/dungeons with others and getting carried there as well. It has nothing to do with experience.
It's the same thing with exotics, recent outbreak perfected is a good example of that. You could have done nothing to gain it and no perks, and just join someone who did who also kill the boss for you. Guardian ranks is very simply marketing, and thats it.
