How to obtain exotic engrams?

Hello there,

I have a quest to collect several engrams and also one exotic. And my problem is just that I have no idea where to get one... I tried alot of stuff I've read in forums but did not find a single one in all the time I've put into. Im kinda exhausted looking for it but even worse... Im running out of time for the quest I think.

So I'd like to ask if you guys have an idea of what is a good way to find one of those engrams.

Actually I've tried everything I think except of pvp-matches but I also don't like to play pvp. Especially not in this game - I've tried once and what I had to experience there just made me abandon it immediately. Unfair, unbalanced and just the worst of worst player versus player experience one can imagine. So I don't want to read anything about this.

Pray to RNGsus. Higher level Nightfalls have an increased chance to drop them

Season pass, random world drops, powerful rewarding activities and Leviathan and the 'sub' raids contained in that have a chance to drop exotics with the ability to get a ghost that increases those chances inside of those raids ONLY.

In short, get lucky or get a fire team and do some raids.

I think you are doing the Sturm exotic quest, I believe you need to find an exotic drop specifically on Nessus unless they changed it

Exotic engrams in general can drop anywhere from any enemy, even a red bar enemy in a patrol zone can drop it

It's all RNG. Just play and don't worry too much about the quest you are trying to do. You'll get one eventually.

The Leviathan raid has a very high chance to drop exotics containing year 1 exotics, especially from the underbelly chests. Those should still work fine. You should get like 1-2 per full run if you use all of the underbelly keys you got. Other than that, find a group to run ordeals at the highest light you can manage. You might also want to try grabbing the fated engram from Xur. I don't think that counts, but I'm not totally sure and you should just be grabbing them anyways if you have the materials.
