Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file.
I had just finished downloading the most recent update and I am now unable to play the game. When I launch Destiny, I get a popup that says "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." I double checked the security settings on the folder, and I am set to full control and added the "Everyone" with the same control (a solution for the same issue with another game), verified files, uninstalled and redownloaded, moved game to another device.

So far nothing has worked in resolving this issue, does anyone else have any suggestions on what could be done?

EDIT:

A fresh install of Windows corrected the issue for me, but another user had the same issue and the below is what resolved it for them. I'd try it before wiping your drive.

SOLUTION : Install previous windows build compilation. You can find it in windows update. Im in windows insider and it worked for me. :)

Uninstalled and redownloading, again. I just want to be able to torture myself after a long days work.
I was having the same issue. Went into the game folder from steam>Battle eye> run BEService_x64 as admin> go back > run Destiny Launcher as admin. Worked after that.
Multiple users have been finding that this solution works best. Added to OP, so you don't have to read through.

Glad to see I'm not the only one with this issue. It's just strange that it wasn't happening until the update.

same problem, also with some other games and battleeye launcher.
Hi there!

Can you please confirm what antivirus you are using? Can you check to make sure that anything related to the game was not quarantined?

Maybe my windows insider dev build is incompatible with battleeye. I read something like hat. I try to downgrade and share it with you.

This constantly recurring problem with games using BattleEye is why I quit using Windows Insider Builds, and just wait for the stable public releases

I don't use antivirus on my PC, so I know this isn't an issue. The one built into Windows is also deactivated,

That's...A terrible idea. Turn it on my man. If you worry about any performance loss, there is None.
I have it turned off due to voice chat issues in Xbox LIVE parties. Whenever it's on, I can't talk. Even allowing it through the anti virus doesn't correct it. Currently doing a clean install of Windows to see if it'll correct the file issue.

UPDATE: It's not an ideal solution, but it seems that reinstalling Windows has fixed the issue.

Now it works with stable win build.

BattlEye.com:

When starting my game with BattlEye enabled, I get the following error message: “Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access the item.”

This is likely caused by you trying to use an unsupported Windows 10 Insider build. While we try to support the latest builds as fast as possible, there can sometimes be delays related to a number of factors. Until then you will have to downgrade to an official public build of Windows 10.

I was running Windows 11, not in the insider program.

dunno if that's gonna do anything but try unsyncing all folders from onedrive then unlink your pc from onedrive and just straight up uninstall it. most of my problems that include folders are all because of onedrive
