Your Ghost has a mod that can boost the stat of your choice on armor drops. Weekly challenges have a higher chance of dropping good stuff. Do the Pinnacle and Powerful challenges.
The Season Pass usually includes one set of high stat armor (for each class) (you'll have to bump the Light level on your own, depending on what level you get it at). The stat distribution isn't necessarily ideal, but it is usually all above 60 native stat points.
Season pass activities usually have a slightly increased chance to drop good loot (but of course, you need a Season pass to do them).
Nightfalls can yield good loot. Dungeons can yield good loot. Raids can yield good loot. Legendary Lost sectors can yield good loot. (Various PvP activities also give improved loot chances (Trials of Osiris, Iron Banner).
Grabbing DIM from the Bungie Companion Apps page can be helpful. Checking Light.gg can be helpful, both of those can help you identify what the community thinks is good loot.
Having weapon patterns you can make (at the Relic on Mars) can be helpful, the weapons need to be leveled up, but once they are, they can have optimal perks.
