Nothing is playable without DLC except the loading feature.
Free to play players get access to prophecy dungeon and 3 raids : Vault of Glass, King's Fall and Crota's End
F2P can get access to the prophecy dungeon, and the Vault of Glass, King's Fall, and Crota's End Raids. Will also note that the current most relevant raid is Corta's End as it's the most recent.
Most raids and dungeons are behind their specific DLC / dungeon key.
Most Nightfalls are also F2P but the ones that are tried to a specific expansion do require said expansion to play them in their Nightfall form (does not apply to strike form).
You can get a full for what the end game is like with just the F2P offering but to get the full thing you'd need to get DLC eventually (at least the most recent one anyway).
Worth also explaining for those that aren't familiar, nightfalls are 3 player activities which focus on combat difficulty, dungeons are 3 player activities that are more focused on mechanics, and raids are 6 player activities that are mostly mechanics and largely require communication
Very original and funny
