How to get machine gun?

Hey! Im doing an essence quest on the moon where i have to make some kills with a machine gun. But all i have is a machine pistole, which doesnt count for the kill counter.

How do i finish the quest without having/finding machine guns. I even read online that Bungie threw the machine gun class out of the game?

Alternatively, you can go into Collections > Weapons > Heavy > Machine Guns > then on page 2 there is a blue one you can buy for 777 glimmer.
