So the buff from lucky pants works by switching from the other weapon to the hand cannon?

So like every time I want the buff I have to switch from my hand cannon to the other weapon and then switch back to the hand cannon.

Can't I just keep using the hand cannon without switching to my other weapon, like shoot then loose the buff when I reload then gain the buff when I start shooting again?

I ask because I found this comment in a forum "The perk only works when you pull out a HC after using something else"

you can only benefit from the buff by pulling out a handcannon which is fully loaded. you do not have to shoot or use your other weapons just pull out your other weapon then switch to HC (make sure it is fully reloaded to get the buff). there is a cooldown after the buff from lucky pants (out of luck i remeber it being called)

so pull out your HC to get the buff, shoot stuff then the out of luck cooldown happens. when that cooldown is over just switch to any other weapon for 1 second then switch back to get the buff from lucky pants (remember you won't get the buff if the cooldown is occuring or if the handcannon isn't fully reloaded)
