Lightfall campaign kicking my noob butt.
I'm a returning player for the Lightfall expansion and I'm having a really tough time getting through the campaign. I'm constantly always under recommended power level by 20-50 power and the campaign seems much harder than it was back in the original Destiny 2. I don't know if I'm missing something that's supposed to help me gear up but any suggestion would be great.

Try farming some Terminal Overload with the other players on the map, almost every time there are players farming it, get some gear, then try to progress, I, as a new player, was really challenged by the campaign, even being 15-25 power level higher than recommended.

I think I've been doing those but the main enemy are immune to my attacks everytime and I don't know where to get the keys for the chest afterwards.

If you're doing the campaign on Legend then it'll be noticeably more challenging, starting with it constantly capping your light slightly under the recommended and adding more enemies.

I don't think legendary is available your first playthrough. But difficulty is set to classic.

Never mind I guess it is available but I was on classic.

You should aim for 10-15 level difference, otherwise it will be too annoying. Use damage resistance chest mods and higher resilience gear if you can. Solar and Void subclasses provide better sustain than others, some exotics and weapons too. You can farm public events, lost sectors or playlists like strikes if you need a higher level gear.

Legendary campaign is available on your first playthrough. It locks your max level at 15 levels below the recommended, but spawns an additional loot chest as a reward and gives 1770 gear for campaign completion in the end. Legendary should provide enough gear, but it's still RNG.

The key for the Overload event is unlocked through one of Nimbus or Quinn quests later. You can loot the locked chest once, but the regular chest can be looted 2 more times if you go to another zone and come back fast enough.

Thank you. I try to aim for less a level difference but it's hard when I can't get gear anywhere other than the campaign itself because the public event gear is all low tier for some reason.

To be fair the classic campaign is a cake walk... pick any weapon and finish it in 3 to 4 hours.

Lower level or lower rarity? Any drop should be higher level until 1750 unless you're extremely unlucky or dismantle the highest level gear.

Blue gear is usable in combat as long as its level is high enough.

You might want an exotic primary for campaign because they do 40% more damage to red bar enemies. That's on top of other dmg perks they might have.

I haven't came across anything higher than a purple yet.

You can always run some battlegrounds, if you have the season

You can pull exotics (yellow) from collections and infuse them with gear you don't need.

Xur is on a tree in Arcadian Valley, Nessus until weekly reset tomorrow and is selling Sunshot for 29 Legendary Shards. Riskrunner is available from A Spark of Hope quest. It should be available after doing a New Light campaign from one of Tower vendors, Shaw Han or from the quest archive.

Riskrunner requires taking arc damage to activate, either from enemies or from your grenade. Sunshot just starts a chain reaction.

If you play the campaign on Classic then you're nearly always below light level because the rewards just aren't as good. You're almost required to farm gear for a bit outside the campaign a couple times at least, but otherwise it shouldn't be that bad.

Put Resilience as high as you can. Try and run some kind of functional build, with mods focused on specific tasks rather than just whatever-random-♥♥♥♥. You can find build guides pretty easily on YouTube from guys like NickTew, Aztecross, Plunderthabooty, Datto, etc. You can also look them up on sites like Mobalytics.

If you're new, this may sound crazy but take a detour to Savathun's Throne World. The first mission of Witch Queen is free and has a ton of chests.

Can try running around and getting Region Chests too, especially from easier zones like Cosmodrome, EDZ and Nessus.
