Why is the sunset gear in Monument to Lost Lights still available to buy?
I just bought Felwinter's Lie and 21% Delirium from the Monument to lost Lights. I can't upgrade the 21% Delirium machine gun.
I bought the machine gun thinking I will be able to upgrade it to 1800 and use it in PvE. I did not know about the ''sunset gear'' until I did some research online after not being able to upgrade it.
My question is: Why do they keep the ''sunset gear'' still available to buy if you can not upgrade it? Do they tell you somewhere in the game that you can not upgrade this type of gear?
From my understanding, the more item level a weapon has, the more damage it does.
For a new player like me (I started 2 months ago), ascendant shards are still relatively hard to get and I just wasted 1 on an item that is useless and I can't use because it's too weak.
In my opinion they should just make a hall of fame or something for (new) players just to watch the items, but not buy them and get scammed like me.

They should still tell you somewhere in the item description.

They are. If you examine the item, you'll see that it says "maximum level - 1600". It's not very obvious to new players anyway.

The good news is that if we believe the rumors, leaks and some information from Bungie themselves, in the future they are going to redesign the power level system and abandon it altogether. So, in theory, you will be able to take these guns again wherever you want.

^ That would be awesome, thank you for answers guys.

Also note that there's plenty of content in which you can use it - anything at base light level. Most raids and dungeons, you can still use sunset gear. The way damage scaling works, is that damage increases until you are 15 light above the light level of the activity, any more and you won't receive a damage increase (though you will receive a damage resistance up to +50), so powerful old sunset weapons are still useful (rarely)

Another thing is, from what I've discovered reading on the internet today about this ''sunsetting'' stuff, which is a total bs imo, an item can only be upgraded one year after it originally dropped? Or that is what I understood so far.
I have a total of 130 vaulted guns/armor (in addition of the 7-8 that I use) which, at some point in time, I'd like to infuse to the current level which is 1800 ish (or whatever the next season's power level would be), masterwork them and start using them, just for gameplay variety. I have many 1750, 1780 etc guns and I'm afraid that I won't be able to upgrade them and use them in the future because of this sunsetting stuff.
Is this the case anymore, or I am in the wrong and I don't know enough of this?

Only guns released during year 1 and year 2 of destiny 2 (i.e red war, curse of osiris, warmind and forsaken guns) are sunset. Many will stay sunset, but some will slowly be re-released (e.g Ikelos weapons). No other weapons or armour will ever become sunset. The current cap is 1810, and next season it will not go up. Reliable leaks (which have so far been confirmed to be 100% accurate) suggest that gear score is going away entirely after next season, and being replaced with an account-based power system, so there's reason to believe that any weapon you infuse to 1810 now, you will never be able to infuse again, and indeed you will never need to infuse any of your weapons or armour after this change. It is unknown how this will interact with sunset gear

Thank you for your answers and your time, that is great to hear, it is a good thing that they are slowly drifting away from this power level increasing every season practice.
