Remove power level altogether? I think removing leveling in an MMO would be very poorly received.
Have leveling only be with the artifact, there is nothing interesting about grinding the same monotonous process since base Destiny 1. There is no challenge/function at all in farming blues up to soft cap then optimizing powerful and pinnacle drops. They lock power level anyways for things like GMs, what's the point? It's useless.
And artifact is exciting? IMO go the other way, make artifact cap out at 10 or 15 levels. Artifact is entirely mindless grinding of XP, powerfuls/pinnacles requires optimization and strategy to decrease the chance of RNG hurting you. It's relatively consistent to be able to reach pinnacle in a week, but artifact leveling takes much longer.
They are both not fun but I would rather artifact than have to worry about gear. Having to infuse stuff every season for each individual piece is mind numbing.
That would be welcomed.
Pinnacle leveling is RNG and requires players to do activities they might not want to - have to do PvP, dungeons, raids, nightfalls, seasonal activities, trials, dares, every single week.
The artifact is fair, though. You just do stuff. Any stuff. As long as you're playing, you're getting XP, you're leveling.
We'd have a LOT more players having fun and leveling with content they like, and a LOT less players whining about how they hate certain content, if the game didn't force us to do tons of stuff we dislike every week for our pinnacle.
If I want to level my artifact to 30 doing nothing but vanguard strikes, because I enjoy it, then let me.
For instance, FF14 has a new patch coming out tomorrow. The new gears crafters will be able to make, is as powerful as the gear that comes from the new 8man raids coming out. There's even stronger gear you can buy with a currency, currency you can acquire from ANY content. Endgame lets you earn it faster, but you could still just do nothing but PvP all day if that's what you like and earn the strongest gear that way.
Also, to be able to upgrade the regular Tome Gear, you need to either: clear Savage floors for the upgrade currency, or wait for the next patch and clear the Alliance Raids to earn tokens to get the currency.
So no, you can't just "grind PvP all day for the strongest gear" in FFXIV.
That's not great. IMO people literally should not be able to hit pinnacle unless they do raids/dungeons. The fact that people can get to pinnacle through just basic ritual activities does devalue the experience, but changing it to entirely XP would just ruin it.
