Whilst the Annual Pass Edition may see discounts throughout the year the Upgrade will not.
Whereas the the basic edition is now considered depreciated because S20 is over.
The Annual Pass Edition/Upgrade includes access to any of the seasons for the year that you don't already have access to. So if somebody was to buy the Standard Edition after reset and recieve S21 with its nd then upgrade they'd receive access to all of the S20 content (they'd just be missing the rewards tack) as well as all the content and rewards for S22/23 when they release later in the year.
Hm... fair enough.
Still feels like "depreciation" might be a factor, or at least a "perceived" factor. But ... that's just a guess on my part.
They exclusively tied the "annual pass" to the deluxe edition, and not have it as it's own separate purchasable entity for this exact reason.
I love that the deluxe edition's price increased by $20 from the last. To make more people buy the normal edition, falling into the trap of the upgrade not going on sale. Screw early supporters who bought your stuff, the only people that matter are the people who haven't already bought in.
This is a new low for Bungie. I want to spend money, but they are putting me in a poor get poorer situation.
For your first point the Annual Pass Upgrade IS the seperate purchase you're asking for.
For your second point that's a regional factor as Lightfall Annual Pass is the same £80 price point as The Witch Queen Deluxe was in the UK. That said even if the price increase had been applied globally it would be accounted for by the inclusion of the additional cosmetic caches that weren't included in previous years releases. Even just considering the exotic ship/sparrow/whatever for each cache gives a minimum equivalent price of 2400 Silver which by itself covers the $20 increase.
