Brief help with melee
Total newb here, two Brief questions:
1. Is there a way that I can use melee to simply punch nearby mooks without triggering my fully loaded melee skill?
2. Sometimes I don't get the benefit from kills (final blows are just kills right?) that would trigger from my solar melee skill. So U guess there is a difference between using melee as a skill and punching, but I'm not sure what that is.
Any friendly help greatly appreciated thanks

1 - There are key bindings in the settings for a non-charged punch, so you can use a standard melee attack that doesn't use up your melee charge.
2 - Hard to say without knowing what exactly is trying to get the benefit. If it's looking for an 'ability final blow', then it will only trigger from charged melee.

Thanks. Yes it's an ability final blow, I forget the name. So I need it charged and I think I need distance for it to work ...

Like what I said about uncharged melee, you can force a charged melee too.
It is very handy for throwing hammer Solar Titan. The default context-sensitive melee makes you do a standard punch against melee-range enemies, and only throw the hammer at something out of melee range. But if you set a dedicated key to charged melee, enemies in melee range get hammer bonked instead of punched.

Regarding #2 on your question: are you sure you're not mixing up "final blow" with "finisher" ? A finisher is a separate keybind which can be used on enemies when their health is low enough (and a few exceptions from that) it generates a fancy kill animation when done correctly.

edit
There's normal melee (which I don't think I've seen a bounty or anything for) you should change this to its own discrete keybind
Powered melee (strength based cool down on screen) you should change this to its own keybind
Finish(ing)er move, this is a 3rd keybind that is enemy health/size dependent.

Cheers

I may be mixing this up and I don't really ever learned about finishers. I did a search for that and I was told that a finisher is automatically executed by any blow that kills an enemy with a circle ...? Is that wrong? Do I need a special key or a special move for that which is not my weapon (LMB) or ability or melee?

Most enemies will, when they are critically damaged, get a little gold marker above their heads, and that tells you that they can be finished.

The default key for it is 'G' and it will play a finisher animation, and kill the enemy instantly. Lightbearer Hive leave behind a Ghost when killed, which must be destroyed with a finisher or the enemy will respawn, just like a Guardian.

Bosses and special units (shriekers, turrets) cannot be finished.
