Brother and I can't play because Destiny crashes pc every 10-15 minutes
My brother and I have not been able to play Destiny more than 10-15 minutes at a time for a week or so. He has a six year old windows 10 gaming PC that's fully updated to current version and graphics driver. I have a brand new windows 11 gaming PC (custom built) that's also fully up to date. We've both gone through various troubleshooting and nothing seems to work. This is a recent development but we're at a loss and are losing all motive to keep trying.

Helpful info for hopefully troubleshooting and solving this.
Our specs is as follows.

His PC:
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-9400F CPU 2.90 GHz
8.00 GB RAM
NIVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER

My PC:
AMD Ryzen 9 7900X 12-Core Processor 4.70 GHz
32.0 GB RAM
AMD Radeon RX 6700 XTW

When did the issues start? 1-3 weeks ago.

What have we both tried for both PCs?
- Making sure both pc and graphic's drivers are up to date
- Verifying game files in steam
- Running disk check for errors on Windows
- Deleting the Bungie folder in appdata
- Turning off all in-game overlays (steam and discord)
- Reducing graphics settings
- Reinstalling the game
- Capping FPS at 60
- Checking power supply
- Checking hardware connections

Where does the crashing occur?

Seems to only happen on Destiny 2. Could happen anywhere. We've seen it....
- Idle in Tower
- Idle in Orbit
- Mid Crucible match
- Mid seasonal activity
- Fishing on destinations
(can't really play the game, period)

What does it look like when the game crashes?
1: Game freezes randomly for about 4 seconds with audio glitch sound.
2: Screen goes black.
3: PC reboots to desktop.

Please! If anyone has any idea what's going on, my brother and I would really love to play the game together. As you can see, we both have very different PC builds, and it baffles me that we both started having the same issues at the same time. At first I was thinking he was the only one with any problem because I've been taking a week or so break from the game but I've tried it and the same is happening to my PC when I play.

If it's happening to both of you on both computers, It's something YOU did and without an error code to work with, no one here can help you.

Thank you, will you kindly tell me what we both could have done to break this game? When we both live our own lives, both have our own PCs, and both haven't done anything out of the ordinary recently (when the issues arose)?

Where would I find an error code if my PC hard resets the instant it happens? I'm sorry, but I think Destiny is the problem. I've included most normal Windows troubleshooting in my list as well. Do you have anything helpful to say, or are you just gonna blindly say it's all on us?

#1 and 2 could be bungie's fault for unstable servers this season because game freezing and screen going black during crucible and the tower aren't new.

#3 sounds like a hardware or update incompatibility issue. If your computer is rebooting itself, it maybe due to the latest windows update (monthly cumulative updates) affecting the bios (boot option #1 should be set to windows boot manager). If that's correctly set, then you may want to check to see if it's a graphics card issue or an operating system issue.

Destiny 2 is still not fully compatible with windows 11 to my knowledge. While it plays smoothly, there will be expected performance bugs.

Lastly, it could also be an issue with NVIDIA GeForce's installed update. Revert to the previous version and see if there are any differences. Then try to re-install the update using the GeForce experience desktop application.

Hope you find out soon a fix!

Thankfully I've not had any issues running D2 on windows 11 until recently. There were a few instances a while back where my PC would disable my GPU automatically and would cause a crash because now it has no GPU to run on. I did a full windows factor reset, wiped the whole machine and started over. Windows hasn't disabled my GPU but now i'm getting this issue with Destiny. I'll check over the hardware and software again and see if something might be conflicting. I have a feeling it could be the GPU miscommunicating somehow.

I get the same crash with no error as well.

Yes, except the game crashes and the whole PC boots to desktop like a fresh restart. No steam open, no discord open. Any apps that were running were closed and normal PC start up functions are going on. BTW I use and AMD GPU and my brother uses NVIDIA, but same exact issue for both of us.

Have you checked your cpu and gpu temperatures? Could be over-heating.

Yes, we have on both PCs. Nothing seems to be getting too hot.

A lot of the crashes I believe has to do with Bungie's servers, it never was an issue until Light Fall came out; now crashes/disconnects (DCs) happen more often and randomly. I did have the freeze with the loud tone, then a reboot a few times when light fall first came out. Checked all my drivers again (think the chipset driver for my processor required an update). Also the drive I was running that game on was almost full; not sure if that was part of the issue, but I went from a sata SSD to a 2TB NVMe drive (the drive is dedicated to games only).

I still get the crashes/DCs (like today) every now and then, but Destiny will just close and return to the Steam Page. I usually have it check for any steam updates then go back in. If another crash, close steam completely then go back in. You can clear the cache data in Steam as well...helps sometimes.

I recently updated my driver and chipset like only a few weeks ago.

However! I've made a few settings changes in both Discord and Steam and have been trying to get the game to crash again while watching Window's Event Viewer. So far, I haven't had anymore issues.

What I changed was...
1: Made sure "in-game overlay" was off for both Steam and Discord.
2: Turned off "Hardware Acceleration" in Discord settings under "Advanced"
3: Turned off "Enable hardware video decoding, if supported" in Steam settings under "Interface"

Have not had any game crashes or PC reboots since I made these changes.

As far as I can tell. My brother tried the same thing I did. He's had less crashes since but they still happen at random. Now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure these issues started right after Steam updated it's launcher to this new layout. So maybe this will simply pass in time. In the meantime, at least it's an improvement.
