quickfang was reissued season of the splicer along with the other class specific swords and was a random legendary engram drop. HOWEVER i cant say that i remember ever getting a class specific sword drop after witch queen came out. i main titan but i cant remember ever getting a new crown splitter this year and ive put in a good chunk of time through all the various seasons.
can anyone confirm getting one of these recently or post witch queen?
To "sunset" something means to retire it. (As in: Windows 7 support has been "sunsetted" by Microsoft).
In the case of Destiny 2, this means a form of "hard" obsolescence for weapons and gear. Basically, it impacts anything from S10 (or older) (I think it was S10). Functionally, this means that any gear from that era has its Light Level locked and cannot be infused or upgraded to the current caps. The "floor" for Light Level is 1350 at the moment. Sunsetted gear cannot be higher level than that, and as a result, cannot be effectively used in many situations.
If a piece of gear has a grey corner, then that's one that's been sunsetted.
Sunsetting of gear has been retired itself. So if you're a new player, it's not really something you need to be too concerned with. The one place you might encounter it is if you go look at the "legacy" gear in the weapon kiosk in the Tower.
Do note: Bungie does still make older gear obsolescent, but they no longer use a "hard" method. They instead use a "soft" method, where newer gear is typically just a tiny bit better than the older gear. This of course is a form of Power-creep, but it's generally better accepted by players than "hard" obsolescence (or durability) is.
Normally, that kiosk is used to allow players to access older Exotics (that no longer have quests out in the game world). Every season usually has at least one new Exotic, and every Expansion has a couple (usually with an associated quest line and sometimes a special dungeon (like the Seraph Station)).
So ... as the seasons go, the older Exotics do, gradually get added. Sometimes there are a few other minor additions, but most of the stuff in the kiosk has been there since it was installed (twoish years ago now).
If you just want regular weapons, Banshee-44 (the weapon smith) does sell some. The travelling vendor Xur also sells some. Both of their stocks rotate on a weekly basis. Xur is also the only source for Hawkmoon (an Exotic Hand Cannon) and Dead Man's Tale (an Exotic Scout Rifle). Both of those guns have variable perks, so ... Xur always has them, but the perks they roll with change from week to week.
Do note, there are also some Exotics that are just world drops, so you will occasionally get one just while playing.
There is no possibility of this happening. The kiosk is primatily used to provide access to past exotics. The only legendary weapons available there are previous pinnacle/pursuit weapons.
