solar Warlocks can create rifts that empower (damage buff) or heal then they have a ultimate that does both
titans have a bubble on void that can give damage buff and overshield
hunters have a void ultimate that hits the enemies / boss and does increases the damage you do to the boss / enemies
you also have some exotics like lumina which requires you to get a kill to spawn a ball which flys to you and when you hit fire towards a ally you can heal and give them a damage buff
or the exotic boots for warlock called boots of the assembler where simply standing in your empower rift will spawn balls that will find your allies within a certain range and give them a damage buff
or if you stand in a healing rift you spawn healing balls that find your allies and heals them and also just standing in your rift and the balls hitting your team mates extend the rift allowing you to straight up just stand and heal and then get your rift back to heal again
as a side note the boots of assembler requires you to basically be the only one in the rift as them being in the rift the balls will just float there and do nothing and despawn and of course if the balls dont hit a ally it doesnt extend the rift
basically all the classes can do all sorts of healing but i highly suggest you go with warlock and use solar
Basically something along these lines:
1) Warlocks are focused in team healing and provide some shelter towards damage (super and class ability).
2) Titans are focused in team shielding (overshields) and provide additional shelter towards damage at the cost of not being able to shoot back at enemies (super and class ability, you can shoot through ability with a specific exotic piece of armour but it makes the ability weaker in return, so it dies of quicker).
3) Hunters are focused in team stealth (invisible), so they pretty much can be the ones pulling the rescue card frequently without using their supers (they can spam class ability for survival and avoid difficult situations for some seconds). Their support role is the weakest of the 3 IMO, but you can use it more frequently so it makes up for it if used properly.
The numbers imo are what i would label each class in terms of priority right now for support. Titans used to be in a better position some time ago, but bungie nerfed them to the ground, making them less of a viable option for team support and giving warlocks the definitive edge here, previously they used to be almost side by side all the time. And if we factor in stasis element/subclasses, warlocks are the definitive kings of that playing field since they can create freezing turrets that do lots of crowd control, which is good for PVE, while stasis titan and hunter are very limited, with titan being extra crappy with stasis.
All of them can buff teams with extra damage. And then there other ways of creating buffs or buffing the people around you using exotics, perks and whatnot. What i described here is essentially the main stuff for each class, going more in depth would take ages to explain.
I would say the warlock is more noob friendly of the bunch, easy to pick up and learn how he works, can become useful real fast for most scenarios without much effort, pretty much what i would call an all rounder. The only downside is the jump, it is either great or too bad, depending on scenario.
Titans require a bit more knowledge or know how, their playstyle usually involves more risk to get the real benefits. Would call it the middle term class in terms of difficulty. Has the best jump ability by far.
Hunters are the hardest to adapt to usually. Mostly because they are focused into mobility, so you have to understand how your character works in different scenarios and factor those traits there, when you do learn how to use it properly, it's definitely the most op of the 3 classes most of the time for pvp, and in PVE it has been a long time since i have seen them being bad in this field.
OP'ness varies every season and every expansion, Bungie keeps buffing and nerfing stuff all the time, so the playing field sometimes favors a specific class more than the others. Until it gets nerfed down or patched ASAP because everyone and their mother likes to go the cheap/annoying way of doing things.
void titan: defend and buff
void hunter: debuff and invis
lumina: heal and buff
tractor cannon: debuff
