Stuck at lvl1

Hello, i started playing with a friend, byut now hes lvl 4 and im still in lvl1, idk why, we played at the same time, i spent hours playing and still stuck at lvl 1.
The exp bar looks gray and it doesnt move

have ye completed the tutorial quest line completely? also that level means nothing, your gear is your level, big number total is good number.

The numbers in your inventory (from 1350 up) is your light level, that's what you should concentrate on, as that determines how powerful your attacks are against scaled enemies

The numbers next to your name in the overworld is your season pass level, so your friend may be in the fourth tier of the season pass whereas you haven't progressed past that yet because you haven't unlocked the season pass activities yet, which as said above, you have to complete the tutorial quest line completely first and unlock the tower and visit it in the special mission that spawns there (basically it just has you run around a solo instance of the tower and talk to all the important people)

Did you do the intro mission for the season? If not, you don't have the artifact so no season ranks will show up.
