Should I be worried about Osteo Striga?
My boyfriend and I beat Witch Queen campaign on legendary difficulty as our first playthrough and I got Osteo Striga. I gotta say, just from using this in battleground and strike activities, this thing is a beast. Pairing it with my stasis build lets me clear adds quick and with the catalyst, I often get infinite ammo. In a lot of playlist activities, I'm finding myself on the top of scoreboards.

But the more I use it, the more I wonder if the weapon is actually busted. Normally I try and avoid weapons that are totally going to get nerfed since I don't want to get attached to something that's going to be worse off than before, and this weapon's giving me some suspicious vibes that it might be the case. I'm more than willing to admit that I don't participate much in non-matchmade content (mainly because I can't be bothered to go out of the game to find people), so a lot of very high level content is beyond my reach on that alone. I'm also a returning player since I quit halfway through Season of the Lost, so my power level is still abysmally low compared to most active players.

That all said, what is the community consensus about Osteo Striga? Should I avoid using this thing further on account of it being OP, or are my suspicions misplaced?

It can be really good with the right build yes, but once you get into higher level crucible it will not be so good when you have to fight forerunner builds and people with insane aim and accuracy DMTs or outbreak perfected.

And for high level content there will just be better choices.

What better choices are there? I've missed a lot since I last played.

Striga shreds white standard adds on the normal campaign difficulties, and in every activity that is normal difficulty.

But you will see the damage falloff in 6 man activities, and raids, especially if there is more major enemies with orange healthbars.

In some content you will be forced to do actual gunplay and switch weapons due to 'Striga sucking against any form of shielded enemy.

But I kind of rely on it too, because of my vision issues, it's much easier to let the seeking projectiles do their thing and not worry about doing perfect headshots all the time.

Just like Loreley is a crutch for people with disabilities doing titan main, Striga is a nice crutch if you struggle to see stuff.

If someone is perfectly healthy though, and crutches on those items because they can't play, then they got my condolences. May the force be with them, cause they need it if a disabled person can play better than them.

The gun is really just super versatile with top tier add clear and pretty good single target damage. However, being good at add clear is something that a lot of things are capable of so it's not something that needs to be balanced out, and the single target damage is outclassed even by other primaries like Outbreak Perfected and Touch of Malice.

The gun is super good, but it's not necessarily busted at the higher end of things. Though it can be a bit boring to use after a while since you're just holding left click most of the time without really aiming.

Right, so if the weapon performs just as well against other weapons for add clear, then there's probably no reason to use it as all it's really doing is eating up an exotic slot for something better, correct? I'd probably be better off using a stasis primary with Tombstone or something.

What are more ideal exotics? Is Anarchy still good despite the nerf from just after I quit? I'm seeing Outbreak Perfected being mentioned, but is it worth taking an exotic slot for?

Wave frame grenade launchers are also very good for add clear. The VoW Raid waveframe can roll with assassin and chain reaction (both can be enhanced when crafted and leveled) and will absolutely shred groups and also is a legendary. The exotic wave frame is also pretty amazing and covers a much larger area than the legendary counterparts as well as element switching which can be amazing for match games. Only limitation of these weapons is their attack pattern is limited as it must follow the ground limiting its effectiveness against floating/flying enemies.
Outbreak perfected is also very strong in the primary exotic for great DPS and decent add clear due to it's nanites. Witherhoard (despite it's recent nerf) is also very good in this slot.

Really good weapon I have used in multiple raids and other activities I normally use with necrotic grips so it spread poison on and on , also neat trick you can burst fire to get poison tick on single target then quick swap to another weapon and do more damage on top while poison dmg is ticking up higher and higher from necro. All round great weapon highly recommend crafting and getting catalyst.

I mean even if other weapons can do similar things, exotics have an intrinsic +40% damage to red bar enemies, so it makes them faster by default for add clearing. Personally outbreak is a favorite of mine because it also has pretty good add clear with the nanites and has really high damage over a long period of time since the nanites increase your damage and stack over time.

Anarchy is still alright. It does 30% less damage to boss targets now, but with witherhoard also getting a nerfed duration it's top tier for passive damage.

As for if it's a waste, I'd say it's only a waste if you're not having fun with it. The game doesn't really need you to ultra midmax is 90% of content so if you like using it you should continue to do so.

Striga is still my main primary. It's level 270 or something like that. I mainly just use it with Warlock with the necrotic grip exotic gauntlets.

While it's probably true that you don't need to minmax in order to tackle most content. I still want to make sure my build is optimized should I ever change my mind and want to tackle harder content that would need it.

For example, in continuing with my (now nerfed) stasis turret warlock build, I want to get my hands on Osmiomancy Gloves which can only be found in legend/master Lost Sectors. While I don't have the power needed to even try them right now, the least I can do is make sure I have the weapons that would improve my odds of completing them. Would an Osteo Striga be able to perform well in this situation, or would I not be better served using a stronger exotic?

Damn that's high. Do you get anything for leveling it past 10?

no, very many better choices

100% doable. There's overload smg right now and Osteo Striga still has good single target damage, well above the average.
