Does setting steam to offline hide you from your friends/clan in game? There are times where I just wanna play solo and it would make it much easier

Yes it does, you'll be showing as offline to them on the roster tab.

I've read online that it's the case only for fellow steam players and that others still see you, can you confirm that?

There used to be ways to manipulate it to close your fireteam.

Have you tried to set your fireteam as private? Dont know if that blocks random friends from joining.

If it comes to it, you can kick them from the fireteam as well. Then send a message saying “hey! Please ask next time” or something to that affect.

Setting Steam friends status to offline doesn't make you offline in the game as Bungie separated the friends from Steam. The friends in the game are from Bungie.net. You can change your fireteam settings so that no one can join you. Press M > Click the Person Icon > Click gear icon on left > Change fireteam settings.

I've been messaged from people in my clan who see me as online in-game when I'm invisible in Steam, Like said above Bungie use their own social system and simply import your Steam friends to it. As far as I know there is no way to be completely invisible in the game from friends and clanmates.

if u private your game information, u will be offline in game also.
But this wil also hide your playtime, recently played,...
however u will still appear online on steam but never playing a game
