Only works in a squad. Besides; no one really uses it at all.

I don't know about that no one thing, I found 3 yesterday with voice chat on (I could hear background and eating chips LOL), neither responded to me, maybe didn't hear me. I found one that the speaker icon showed to be talking, or some noise and I heard no sound.

If you're in a fireteam and can see people's names pop up with the microphone icon, and you still can't hear them in game, then try windows key+G and check Audio -> Voice -> Default communication output.
I had mine set to non existant device by default, so I never heard anyone over voice. After changing it to my actual soundcard/headphones it started working just fine.

Yeah likely console open mic. I usually boot them out of groups as they usually annoy others into leaving 6 man activities, for some reason they have their loud ass on open mic and yet have everyone else muted.

If you can't hear anyone ingame, likely no one is talking. I found I needed to set my default device to also my default 'communication device' in windows for my mic to work in d2 though.

It's not that I can't hear anyone, it's pretty rare, but SOME will show the speaker and make no sounds that I can hear. Most I hear and can hear me, when they bother having it on, I always have it on. I wonder if their mic vol is too low, 0?

Yeah likely someone munching on ♥♥♥♥ or breathing into their mic that you cant hear.
if:
-Windows default communication and default devices are both correctly set to your headphone and mic.
-Any ingame audio options are set to the same devices.
-Your voice chat volume in game is set to a decent level.

Then I have no idea why it's not working.

If you ever see me in game and Im not talking, just use chat and ill turn on my mic. most times now, I am in my Discord with clan mates. I do play a lot solo, so I can talk anytime or add you to my Discord.

!!!FIX FOR THIS ISSUE!!!

If you are like me and switched from PS to PC (Steam), try this!

So to fix this issue, I had to log back into Destiny 2 on a Playstation, go to settings, then to the sound tab and press the square button to set it back to default. This then has allowed me to hear people through in game voice chat!

All I will say- and I know this is like a year old- THANK YOU. I have been trying to get my In-game chat to work for a year and, thanks to you, it's working. Thank you so much bro

Why would you want to hear other people? All you get is irritating noises, kids crying all the time(stop playing the game and look after your children you chumps) or fights with their girlfriends.
I once had the unpleasure to hear a guy getting head while playing ( IM NOT JOKING!)

So why would you want to hurt your ears by listening to that crap?
