How to get exotics

Returning old time player from when the game came out. Recently started playing again and haven't seen an exotic drop or engram in 15+ hours of play. Where the heck do I find them now?

In legendary Lost Sectors. There's I think only one active at a time. The map will show a more prominent Lost Sector Icon. There will be a flag to launch from at the location with details.

I should add, exotics still occasionally drop but only the older ones. And also old exotics are available at the terminal near the vault at the tower that you can buy with special currencies. The reward track usually has a couple of exotic engrams as well but again, only the older ones. The only way I know of to get the newest exotics is the Lost Sector stuff.

Exotics are more common drops in higher tier Nightfalls, and are also possible rewards from doing Legend/Master lost sectors (please note that all Year 4 & 5 exotic armor pieces must be found in lost sectors first before they become a part of the general pool). Other than that, Xur also sells exotics like he always has, there is an exotic kiosk at the tower for "homeless" exotics (exotics no longer tied to a given quest for one or more reasons), and exotic armor can drop from any other loot source albeit at a low chance.

Also, most exotic weapons do not drop again after you've obtained them; this is because they can now be reacquired from your collections since they are static rolls (save for Hawkmoon and Dead Man's Tale). Raid/dungeon exotics are the main exception.
