Pinnacle Gear not higher than my highest?

I got Gauntlets yesterday with 1774 Power, even though I already had some with 1774 in my inventory. Do you sometimes just get duds?

Pinnacle loot doesn't pick a slot and then drop as +2 more than the item in that slot. It drops as +2 higher than your power average, the average of the highest power gear that you own for each slot. Depending on the exact power levels of the items you own, yeah unfortunately sometimes you get an item that doesn't give an overall boost.

From that, it sounds like your average is 1,572, that's the average across all 8 equip slots. That means a '+2' piece of pinnacle loot will always drop at 1,574. If it dropped as a chest piece, and you had a 1,571 piece there, then you've got a gain in that slot (which may raise your average and therefore raise the level that pinnacles will drop at), but as your gauntlets were already 1,574, you got the drop in a slot that didn't help.

im also kinda confused about this, all my gear is 1573-1574, and i just got a pinnacle drop for 1573 helm, it sounds like it should have been a 1575 drop?

It's not +2 above the "Average", it can be +1 or +2 above your "Max" power level that you can be on that character.

It can drop the same piece of Amour or Weapon each time you get a Pinnacle each week, I have had it drop nothing but Power Weapons for all my Pinnacles for an entire week on each character.

It took me nearly a full season to get 1 piece of armour at the Pinnacle cap on my Warlock a few seasons ago.

Just make sure that you are keeping an eye on your power level with DIM so that you can see how many points you are away from the next level, because if you are 1 point away and you have item lagging behind the rest say:

Primary, Energy and Power Weapon = 1579
Helmet, Arms, = 1579
Chest = 1578
Boots = 1577
Mark, Bond, Cloak = 1573

=1577 7/8 Power Level if my maths is correct.

Then do not do Pinnacles and instead focus on Powerful and Prime Engrams as, all Powerful drops not Pinnacle drops should drop at 1577 and Primes should drop at 1577 so you could do them to get a cloak at 1577 which would put you to 1578 3/8 then all of a sudden all your Powerful and Primes drop at 1578.

You Pinnacles then drop at 1579 and 1580 instead of 1578 and 1579.

i mean my lowest item is 1573, it should have been higher than that still? i dont have any severely underpowered items compared to the rest

You cannot be 1573 if you got a Pinnacle at 1573, you must be at most 1572.

Have a look at DIM, that will tell you the maximum you can be on each character.

Which "Pinnacle" did you do as it may not have been "Pinnacle" and may have been "Powerful"

you can get capped at a powerlevel?? im on dim and it says max power is 1573.5(4/8)? so i cant go higher than 1573?

next to my 1574 gear it has a green +1. i dont know what that means.

Jesus, it's not rocket science. The game takes your maximum average level and gives you a reward based on it. Different sources give different rewards. Strikes, Crusible, Gambit, and Weekly chan challenge give +1, everything else gives +2

ok so i get the 4 1574 items i have, is the reason for the (4/8) bringing my total to the 1573.5. but thats all im getting from this, i dont see a 'maximum' that i can be i guess...

Now you know that if you get a pinnacle reward, it will be above 1573. The maximum item level this season is 1580.

this is where is get confused, im like 99.99% sure the drop i got was a pinnacle, it was the freelance survival 7 wins. and my drop was 1573

But you don't get Pinnacle for survival. Maybe you mean the Trials of Osiris?
This can be confusing, because in the director powerful and pinnacle do not differ from each other in any way, except for the text.
