Legendary weapon to farm?

Depends on what legendary and its use

Rampage, triple tap, swashbuckler, opening shot, kill clip, multikill clip, etc are all great perks

But dont discount rapid hit, high impact reserves, quickdraw, snapshot sights, etc

It also depends on if you want it for pvp or pve.

A good thing to do, imo, would be to research pvp and pve god rolls. That way, when something drops, you can judge offhand weather to keep it or junk it. And if you aren't sure, just keep it. Plenty of storage space available.

If you're a fan of Hand Cannon and dont wanna use exotic, you're gonna love Spare Rations
Good Damage, Good Handling, 150 RPM, got 93 base aim assist even without mods
and on top of that, its Lightweight Frame means it boost your movement.
The only downside is mediocre range and stability.

For PVE : Rapid Hit / 4th time a charm + Rampage / Swashbuckler / Kill Clip.
For PVP : Snapshot Sight + Moving Target / Kill Clip / Swashbuckler / Rampage

A general use primary ammo weapon I'd suggest finding a good pulse rifle with good range like a nice roll on a Go Figure, Bygones, Claws of the Wolf, or an Authoritative. Or a nice hand cannon like Better Devils, Kindled Orchid, Spare Rations, Waking Vigil, or Trust, For a special ammo weapon I personally like fusions like Dreambreaker, Main Ingredient, or Erentil FR4. But shotguns like Wishender, Badlander, Dust Rock Blues, and Good Bone Structure are popular and easy to find. As for snipers just anything with high impact and snapshot sights along with another perk of your choice. For power weapons really the best options are grenade launchers with 150 RPM like Love and Death, Swarm of the Raven, Outrageous Fortune, Acantha-D XK8434. Especially with spike grenades and either auto-loading holster or field prep. Also Hammerhead the machine gun is very helpful in PVP.

To get your loadout set up I would recommend you to play:

Play menagerie and craft an Austringer (handcannon kinetic) with range masterwork. One of the best legendary handcannons. You can find guides for menagerie on youtube.

Go to Zavala to get the quest card for loaded question (special ammo fusion). Its the best legendary energy fusion at the moment. You will love it.

Play Reckoning to get Spare Ration (handcannon). One of the best legendary kinetic handcannons. This weapon only drops on Oryx Week. (On the other week there are 2 Knights, they don't drop it.)

Play Last Wish to get 1k voices (power fusion exotic).

Play Scourge of the Past Raid to get anarchy (power grenade launcher exotic) = does DPS over time while you can shoot with your loaded question fusion on the target. Also get threat level shotgun curated role from that activity (legendary shotgun kinetic).

Play forges to get blast furnace (pulse kinetic) and hammerhead (power lmg) and kindled orchid (energy handcannon). (All weapons are legendary)

Play Bergusia forge and craft any weapon to get jötunn as bonus drop (exotic fusion special ammo). One of the best weapons to play sentry in gambit prime.

Get forge exotic quest for izanagi's Burden (kinetic exo sniper). Meta weapon for raids at the moment.

Get drifter exotic quest for thorn (kinetic exo handcannon).

PLAY dungeon Zero Hour to get outbreak perfected (exotic pulse kinetic) and because it fun to run it.

Go to shaxx to get recluse quest card (legendary energy smg) and mountaintop quest card (legendary kinetic grenade launcher). Both weapons are meta right now. Top tier.

Get exotic world drops like tractor cannon (debuff power shotgun), DARCI (power sniper), black talon (sword range attack), wardcliff coil (power rocket launcher), thunderlord (lmg), prospector (power grenade launcher), telesto (special ammo fusion).

Exotic world drop weapons can be purchased for shards from Xur each weekend. He offers a different world drop exo weapon each weekend. So go to him and buy the stuff you are missing in your collection.


Addtional Information:

Put counterbalance stock mods on your fusions (like loaded question) that will make your life much easier. Put targeting adjuster on your handcannons (like austringer and spare ration) to trigger precision hits more often cuz it does a lot of bonus dps.

Fusions got a buff 4 months ago. They are my choice now. Shotguns were yesterday ;-)

Top tier fusions are 1. Jötunn, 2. Telesto. 3. Loaded Question

Jötunn hits like a shotgun but has a much higher range. The first 2 are exos. So if you need an exo slot then just put the legendary loaded question into your energy slot. Loaded question is the best legendary fusion. With a full mag the first shoot does area dps that is its special perk. Makes fun!

But you will (maybe) need shotguns for some raid encounters (I do raids without any shotgun sometimes but maybe your team wants to play them if they teach you). Ikelos shogun from mars escalation and threat level curated role from scourge of the past raid are good. You do a meele attack and then those shotguns get a DPS buff for the next 3 shoots. Than you meele again and so on.

If no one has said it and you have forsaken... get those god rolled moon weapons! the AR and the 'nade launcher are god tier!

Minor correction; Jötunn (and Le Monarque) drop from quests now. They're easy, but take five weeks.
