That number is how many people have the program running. (if you are using steam stats) It doesnt reflect the actual player count. Though its probably up there. I leave games on for hours on end minimized. Theres definitely a percentage of people that are doing that.

If your border is green as if you are playing the game you are added to that player count regardless of the situation. Its why DOTA is always high. Because it has built in streaming and viewing.

Destiny 2 doesn't have built in streaming and viewing. There's definitely a lot of people playing. The reason the op isn't seeing them is because the game segments into different instances constantly. It's not an MMO.

I never said it did. its common knowledge that the green borders in around your avatar triggers that count. Regardless if its actively being played.
