how do world drops work （armor）

lets say for the sake of example i want the kairos function armor
wiki says it came from dlc but collection says its world drop
is it a world drop，is it vaulted is it restricted to higher level or dlc etc
or is it just luck that determines whether i get it

yes but only normal purple engrams not umbral engrams

whats difference between normal purple engrams and umbral engrams

Umbral engrams only contain set gear that is targeted that season. For instance this season Umbrals contain the seasonal weapons and armor from psi-ops, a small selection of "new" (re-introduced) weaponry, the dreaming city weapons, and select sets of world armor.

While true, umbrals can also be used to focus for specific armor or weapons from past seasons at the war table.

It can be focused to narrow it's targets, however the targets are still the same ones in the engram already. With the exception of decryption it into gear from previous seasons.
