Battleye falsely banned my 5,000+ hour account for modding another game with Destiny 2 open. Bungie is upholding the ban. This is why you should be worried.
Firstly, I'm not begging for an unban. I haven't been enjoying Destiny 2 for well over a year now. I've only really played because of sunk cost fallacy.

Secondly, whether you believe me or not isn't important. If you think I was cheating, or you think I'm innocent, the point of this post is to highlight just how terrible the anti-cheat and customer support is.

What happened, and why did you get banned?

I was spending the night on November 1st modding a game called Phasmophobia, a co-op horror game where you hunt ghosts with friends. After friends had gone to bed, I booted up Destiny 2 to get my Presage run finished since tomorrow would have been reset on Tuesday. Just before the boss, I got *error code: weasel,* and booted to title screen. A bit annoyed, I reconnected and was hit with a ban.

I wasn't even told what happened or why I was banned. Just "This account is banned." I closed the game, about to restart on the chance it was a crazy bug. It's Bungie, after all. Before I could, I saw that gross, ugly red text on my Steam profile. 1 Game Ban on record. 0 Days since last ban. My account was actually, for-real, banned. I noticed I still had a modding program open from Phasmophobia, and guessed it was that. (I'm actually still not even sure that's what did it.)

I commonly end up leaving Destiny 2 in orbit or in the tower while running other games, I have a very powerful PC that can handle multiple games at once.

I don't cheat in Destiny 2, I don't even play PvP. In fact, my last crucible game was Oct. 13, 2020. Over a year ago! Here's my game history if you don't believe me.[www.bungie.net] Unless one thinks I needed cheats to get through Presage, which would be an absolute joke. My game history following that has just been seasonal content and some strikes.

My account has 4,200 hours on Steam, another 3,000+ from Battle, and thousands more from Destiny 1. I've spent over a thousand dollars on this game from expansions and seasons, dlcs, eververse, and gifts to friends.

Have you tried to appeal the ban?

Yes, I tried numerous times. Firstly through Bungie's own website. I told them what happened, showed them my modding tools and provided them URLs so they could easily verify I wasn't cheating. It would be *outstandingly clear* that I wasn't cheating. However. I didn't get a response. I tried talking with Steam support, Bungie's forums, yelling at BungieHelp on Twitter, nothing. Days became weeks, and eventually, just yesterday, I got an e-mail that Bungie is choosing to uphold the ban.

Why should I be worried?

If you mod games, or just like privacy, you should be very worried. This is not an isolated incident. Since Battleye was implemented in September, *many* players have been banned for having modding tools, singleplayer trainers, or cheat engines on their PC. To be fair, most of them have been overturned, but others like me are SoL.

Battleye is kernel-level spyware. BattlEye intrusively scans everything on your system, and when I say everything, I mean EVERYTHING. Not just running memory, but every file on your system. BattlEye will even download some files and upload it to their master server. Here's a debug view of Battleye actively scanning my system. Battleye sends files back to the master server from your hard drive if it is suspicious of you. It sends the whole file path and your IP address. These are logged on the master server and kept indefinitely.

It sucks that there's absolutely no customer service route to follow, and nobody online believes you.

Make sure you read the post before you embarrass yourself next time.

Also, reddit is cringe.

what about not cheating?
We all know Anti Cheats are bad for your pc but most pvp modes were unplayable.
I dont care if players like you get banned but we can finally play pvp without encountering cheaters or recovy every second match in trails or comp.

first of all theres no way u can meet cheaters in"trails"as it doesnt exist at all, second the cheaters are gone in trials is because of the new paywall instead of battleye
