Sad Times of a PvE main
I was going to post in this forums asking how anyone else gets pvp exotic quests/catalysts done. Im so tired of things requiring me to play pvp to progress them. Thats not why i play Destiny, and i hate Destinys pvp especially. Then i learned an entire 100 something comment discussion already got sent and locked because all the gripes i have with pvp are shared by many

Its truly sad when a community is split like this. Many players are like me and just want a fun, casual experience, even in pvp. But pvp does not match players like me with players like me. Ill freely admit im total crap at pvp, thats not the point. The point is that people like me are treated the same as godly, prestiged players who can 3 tap you with any handcannon, or entire teams consisting of the same, coordinated clan

I understand Destiny has a solid pvp following, and it makes perfect sense to have a pvp aspect in a game like this. My question is why there is no skill/team based matchmaking. The main gripes are clear and obvious, and i dont really see any valid argument against my point. Im aware this topic will likely be shut down but, again, not the point. There is such thing as a casual player, wanting a casual pvp experience. It straight up doesnt exist in Destiny, and thats truly disappointing

Just do your catalysts in momentum control. Can probably get every single one of them done in a couple hours.

I hear you, was just thinking the exact same to myself. Gatewaying pve players to PvP is terrible game experience, if fun could go into negative scores it certainly would with forced PvP. I think the biggest issue is however matchmaking, every single instance i get into have the same perma PvP folks running perfected meta, so getting any points or progress is just extra painful.

Not only it is not fun for me, what is really hearbreaking is confronting with all the other players I would rather be friends with! I dont want to be a hate magnet for having the pvp skills of a cabbage. xd

I personally dont get all the hype for PvP, having an old background in Quake Arena and Unreal Tournament games. Those were focused games with some of the best movement and shooting mechanics. In d2 does not feel like it could ever be fairly balanced out.

It was quite evil to set this up with Lorentz in the Season pass, just a shame to get baited into something I will never want to, or enjoy completing.

Whoever wires these rewards and quest steps at Bungie: `Jeeesus, man` ... xd

like sensei said, momentum control is your best bet to complete any catalysts specifically requiring you to get kills in crucible. to be honest though, unless you are just wanting to complete for the sake of completion, none of the exotics with catalysts requiring crucible kills are geared toward PvE anyway; they are designed to be used in PvP.

Unfortunately, i kindav am a completionist. An unfinished catalyst for a weapon i have is like a splinter in my thumb. I cant just leave it there and pretend i dont have it, its gotta be dealt with. I only gave up on Agers Scepter questline when i got to the 3 strikes part and realized the eurpoa strike requires Beyond Light (Also would have been great to know before i progressed the quest)

I know posts and gripes like this are common, i just wanted my voice heard. Its bittersweet knowing others are understanding, because its nice to not be alone, but its sad that its still a thing

There is a point though, im fully aware those types of catalysts are not for pve play, but the weapon itself is still fun and useful for pve. I adore Witherhorde, it may or may not even finally replace Sweet Business in my hands. Or it had that chance anyways, until now. The machine gun stays strong

PvE main here. Youre not alone. I've been playing for 3 years and i basically always abandon any quests/catalysts that require me to get certain pvp kills. Its not necessary. The best pve weapons dont require you to play pvp unnecessarily.

witherhoard is like a hell

Ima be honest rq. Isn't it easier to finish exotic quests or quests in general that are locked behind PvP? Unless it's something like Mountaintop but that's gone nowadays. Sure, it shouldn't be locked to PvP if you wish to use it in PvE, but luckily for you, you don't care about PvP. So just play it from time to time and finish its progress slowly, or grind it all out. Don't get frustrated from the imbalance or sweats, that's really all. It takes the same amount of time as it would if you had to grind something PvE orientated instead of PvP, hell even quicker depending on you. Just be glad you're a PvE player doing the quest in PvP, as the only thing you have to lose is your temper, and that's ENTIRELY based on you.

You really want to know PvP grinding? Try grinding for Not Forgotten back when you could, wasting countless of hours, grind and sweat just to get it..Then finding out that people can just BUY it and not sweat a single dime, but just invest some time.. THAT'S painful..

Mentioned so many times now, you can play every Strike via Strike playlist.

It really depends on the person, when were talking about frustration. Im allowed to be frustrated from barely being alive long enough to score a single kill, i dont think thats outlandish. I dont get frustrated easily, i adore difficult games like Dark Souls, Remnants, modded Terraria, etc. Trust me i die and lose all the time. But theres a big difference in how those deaths and losses come to be, how much/little progress i made per loss, and its relation to my frustration levels. No one likes consistantly losing, making next to zero progress towards their goals, being alive long enough to see a possible victim only to become that victim just beforehand, or immediately after. There is no progress being made. And dont come in here with the "You dont know what grinding truly is" crap, because i did grind for The Mountaintop, a shader i really liked (think it was the rank 7 reward a long time ago, Crucible Vermillion(?)) etc etc. How difficult the grind is isnt even the point here, the point is how frustrating it is. You should know this. Destiny pvp could be really fun even for a casual like me, all they have to do is introduce skill-based matchmaking. Let the scrubs like me fight scrubs like me, dont pit me against people who play PvP as much as i grind PvE. Theyre not comparable to my skill level, and someone like me will never reach their level, especially if i have to fight people like them right from the start

I know the catalysts arent even worth it, and i get that complaining about this because i just cant leave it incomplete makes me sound like a crybaby. But youd be a straight up fool to deny that theres a problem in pvp. If someone who has never touched pvp in their life can be pit against a full group of 6 coordinated friends all prestige 7 on discord making calls, then its not pvp. Its one group hunting the other for what i can only imagine is fun. Which seems weird to me, because dunking on other players doesnt seem fun unless they pose a challenge. I am no challenge to these types of players

I did not know any strike could be played via strike playlist, i usually only grind the nightfall if im doing strike related things, and its been 2 years since i last played. This is good information though, if there isnt a pvp step required for Agers Scepter maybe i can get it after all. A Stasis Trace Rifle sounds pretty interesting to me

I wish we could choose the type of quests for our catalyst in the same way you can for transmog armor or Statis memory shards. either a Strike/Crucible/Gambit themed quest.

I disagree, both witherhoard and Ticcu's divination is quite strong in pve and the catalysts make them a lot better. Still though, it's a pain to be forced into pvp if you prefer pve and the other way around forced to pve when prefering pvp.
Doing momentum control is the easiest way to make those catalysts as things are atm.

I really like Witherhoard, like i said earlier i like it enough to possibly use it as my main weapon (over Sweet Business). I currently run the same old setup for most things and its fun, but i do like changing things up. Though im not trying to get the catalyst for its stat increases, i simply have a hard time ignoring incomplete things like that

I may or may not try to grind it out in momentum control, but ill probably ragequit after the first match like usual regardless and try to convince myself that exotic quest doesnt exist

catalysts are easier to do in their respective season because the catalyst boosts from season pass. I did the witherhoard catty in s11 itself so it was 50% faster.
What I did is i went to momentum control let an enemy come up close bait him to use his shotty/melee and then shoot witherhoard on the ground. You will die but so will he.

I mean I hate PvP but its not even that hard to get the cat's done in there. It was also far harder in the past than it is now.

The catalyst for Witherhoard I would say is not PVP related, but it requires 100 grenade launcher kills in PVP to obtain. This is one of the better weapons for PVE and is terrible to use in PVP.
