Why can't i upgrade my weapon levels

Right click on the weapon, look at the maximum light level. If it says 1050, then the weapon is sunsetted and CANNOT be upgraded. It will always be whatever the "floor" for the season is (in S15, the floor is 1100).

As (N☆G) Jackal ★JJ★ said, you can also look at the corner, if the corner is grey/white, that also means the weapon is sunsetted. That applies to both armor and to weapons.

If a weapon has a solid white tab on the left of its icon it means it is legacy.
Those you cant upgrade pass a certain point.

All weapons that can be upgraded have a symbol and a transparent background in the top left of its icon.

Its a little triangle in either case on the weapons/armor picture that is in the top left of it when looking at it from inventory or vault.

like the gray triangle in the corner? Almost all my stuff has it does that mean I'm stuck using weak armor until the armor comes back in the future

yeah sadly there are some weapons that you cant upgrade past a certain level...

it looks like only the yellow ones aren't like that should i just stay in low level zones until I can find the same armor again

that means all your gear is legacy which means it cant be upgraded past a certain point, so you're gonna have to grind out some blue armors from like strikes or pvp to raise your level up until you can get some legendaries.

yeah all yellows, or exotics aren't power capped. and everything kinda scales to you, and you can tell if they're out of your league, or gonna just one tap you.
red sword- almost out of your league, gonna be a little tough but you can do it.
red skull- back the ♥♥♥♥ up hell one tap you.

these are next to the enemies health bars, the very left of it.

so is there new items that are purple that aren't locked like this or is it all blue equipment I haven't seen any gray or green equipment drop since i restarted

so everything for now on, you will be able to use it forever. unless they change it. all new gear and gear that drops will not be capped. blues you won't be able to infuse, or i believe you can with other blues? man its been a while since i used blues

and you can also see what gear you're actually missing in the collections tab, even down to the greens, and blues you're missing.

That means your gear is old, sunsetted. You CANNOT upgrade it.

If you're doing bounties and public events, you're going to get NEW gear. Replace your old stuff.

I have new blue gear it's just not as cool as my purple stuff tha's weaker i can just switch it out when i'm in higher level zones right

Stick your old purple gear in the vault. Wear the blue stuff.

If you WANT to, you can turn it into Universal Ornaments. Go talk to Ada-1 in the tower to get started on that.

If you keep doing bounties and public events, you'll start getting new purple gear too.

I just want to keep using my purple stuff it's not rare but it took me forever to get and make cool and all teh happy memories playing with my best friend

yeah then if you wanna use that gear still you can take its appearance to use it on anything.
