What expansions do I need?

So I played a bit on my playstation. I had all the expansions on that platform up to this new one coming out. I now have Transitioned to PC as my main gaming area.

I have a friend wanting to play (hes still on playstation) and I figured I would take advantage of crossplay... But I rather not buy all the expansions if I dont have too.

Can I just pre order this new one? Are the old ones getting cycled out anyways?

You should be able to use unlocked DLC gear, but not Stasis subclasses and I don't think you'll be able to help your friend with campaign missions.

You can grab WQ and then wait for Legacy collection sale. You might find Legendary edition keys somewhere, but IDK how Bungie or Steam handle Forsaken part now. Legacy includes Forsaken pack while Legendary has the Forsaken DLC, otherwise they are the same. Legendary was on sale multiple times, unlike "new" Legacy

In terms of DLC options, in order for you to even play most of the game, and experience it at that, buy all of them. Get the shadowkeep/forsaken/beyond light bundle, then either pre-order one of the witch queen editions right now or wait for it to come out next week. I understand its a cost, but that's how live service games work.

The Red War has been vaulted
The Curse of Osiris has been vaulted
Warmind has been vaulted

On the 22nd, Part of Forsaken is getting vaulted (the Campaign and the Tangled Shore location). The rest of it is not.

Shadowkeep is not being touched.
Beyond Light is not being touched (although the seasonal activities will be discontinued).

They may eventually vault the rest of Forsaken and Shadowkeep, but we don't actually know.

Expansions are platform specific. If you want to play any of the expansion specific content or use any Exotics that you own that come from a specific expansion, you will need to own that specific expansion for the PC.

That said, Witch Queen (and an active Season Pass) will be the most important things to own. If you do want the older stuff, wait for a sale on the Legendary Edition, that'll give you all three of the older ones.

(Although, if you already own Forsaken, you do get some compensation when they vault it, I think it's 3 Exotics).
