Destiny 2
Is Crucible and Iron Banner illegal?
Come on know Cruci and Iron Banner feels like an illegal underground fight club held by Lord Shaxx and Lord Saladin. Why are we fighting each other when there is war going on?

My Name if Byf is great if you want to learn more about the lore of Destiny.

at first glance , destiny seems like candy crush where you shoot the friend who doesn't give lives (revive) in the face
but nope, since guardians are already undead, it does make sense
just like military conscription, there is method to the madness

A training ground.
If you can live infinitely and can only be at risk when your light/ghost are killed honing your skills vastly improve combat effectiveness.

So having a fight where no one actually dies will reinforce how effective each one of those combatants are.
You are talking about Gambit,Crucible is official training grounds and arena for Guardians of the last city.
Let's think of this realistically, guardians killing each other because they can revive makes no sense, unless you're an exo, traumatic stress will have severe mental consequences, it's clear from the lore that guardians feel pain after all.
With the technology, you'd think they'd have developed stun guns or armour similar to the enders game series that locks up upon being shot.

But no, let's kill each other in extreme ways over and over, also how does a ghost resurrect a corpse that has been disintegrated?
Didn't our ghost search years to find our "body" to resurrect?

shaxx stands literaly in the middle of the city and im pretty sure its no secret what his profession is,you fight guardians to be ready for when ♥♥♥♥ hits the fan, gambit is illegal af tho
gambit is hovering the line, actually. because the vanguard and everyone in the council begrudgingly let him run it knowing full well of what is happening there. i don't recall which lore tab it was but i remember that shaxx was one of the spectators for one of the earliest gambit match and boy oh boy, our pal the drifter didn't mention what happens when you bank enough motes so everyone had an oh crap reaction when the primeval was summoned. i really need to take notes of where i read these things.

it makes sense in the fact that Crucible acts as a training ground, protection and a place for Guardians to unwind

Which also makes no sense, no enemies apart from the rifleman can kill a ghost (other than wizards) so shouldn't guardians get experience actually fighting thr enemies of the traveller rather than each other? Spartans throw their children into the wild to fend off against wolves and bears after all.

dunno, don't ask me, ask whoever's writing the lore. because what i said is canon. about the rifleman, he managed to kill cayde's ghost because of uh...i can't remember the specifics but the bullet was something similar to thorn's where it suppresses your light and can kill a guardian/ghost outright. the one i was talking about earlier where only joxen (the guy testing out prime) was the only survivor of his fireteam didn't clarify how the other guardians died but i'm guessing because taken is essentially darkness, that it allowed them to kill the ghost or something to that degree, not sure since i don't think it's clarified anywhere. gonna have to check that.

also, crucible is essentially a sport at this point. and because there's no real casualty, it makes it easier for guardians to kill their opponents and have proper combat experience. also, it's because they're not about to send guardians out to further antagonise other species especially when they are a lot more dangerous than how they are presented to us, players, in the game.

well maybe fighting other guardians is harder than fighting "the enemies of the traveller",so its better preparation for the worse that is to come
Ever heard of "deliberate practice"?

Unless we are fighting against guardians for real any time soon, learning habits against them will prove no benefit against other enemies, the only thing it gives us is the fundamentals.
Fighting against each race gives us better muscle memory for weak spots as their crit areas are variable, weapon understanding, splash zones etc etc, you'll learn nothing consistent against guardians as each one are unique, it's just a blood sport.

I'm probably taking this too serious but if people want to go balls deep into lore, I'll go balls deep into plot holes.

plot twist: he's actually working with the drifter
The crucible is a training ground for guardians. It's also broadcast on TV as entertainment for the people of the last city.

Gambit is the gritty, underground fight club.

So that's why Shaxx is commenting each of our actions with the voice of a sports commentator...

Yes, also why you'll hear the NPCs at the tower say stuff like "did you see the crucible last night?" every once in a while.
