How to Start Season of Dawn?

A friend of mine came on today to do the Season stuff, but can't get Ikora to give the A Matter of Time quest to start it.

He has not finished Moon stuff, and did not do the last season. How does he start the Dawn stuff?

Press Tab > Seasons > Blue button that says git season pass my son.

When you first start Season of Dawn and speak to Osiris, he'll send you on a quest to activate the Obelisk on the Tangled Shore. You'll need to complete a simple fetch quest by killing Cabal and then destroying enemies with abilities

I am already starting Forsaken campaign tonight and I've unlocked 6 hours ago the lantern of Osiris season artifact so no need to anything but go to Mercury and start the quest.

Okay, I figured it out. And damn, Bungie really needs to start explaining things better. This was just stupid.

The issue was that my friend just came back to the game and was under light level 800. That's all. There is a shadow requirment of 800 to start the Dawn stuff.
