The Darkness/Sword Logic literally feeds on "victory in combat", or in looser interpretations [like Savathûn's] "expressions of superiority over the others around you". This goes back as far as the Hive's symbiotic worms starving to death if the Hive didn't kill things.
So growing fat with strength could be his way of saying to grow stronger via the Sword Logic.
Growing fat is also an expression of luxury and opulence - things that Calus obviously enjoys - as traditionally the working class couldn't afford the food and leisure time necessary to become fat.
I really enjoy your take on it, always good to Learn new things from those around me
