Question about light levels
So say for example I have a light level of 1298 with my equipped gear but i equip something with a much lower light level (like 1100), does this mean that i won't be able to get gear that drops for my 1298 light level?

It doesn't matter if the gear is equipped, or carried, or even in the vault. Your character's 'maximum possible' level will be calculated from all the available gear they own, and that's the power level that determines the level of dropped items.
So even if all your equipped gear is 1,100 but you have a 1,300 for every slot either carried or in the vault, dropped equipment will be 1,300 or higher.

Fun fact, it isn't even all the gear they own, it is all gear on the account. Even if you don't transfer or put any weapons in the vault, their power will count towards your other classes, making the power climb much easier on alternate characters.

So yeah, as long as you don't delete the highest power item in each slot, it doesn't matter what you use.
