kinda confused on how to judge whats better equptment/weapons by stats and power lvl
like if the impact on one weapon is about the same on the menu as one weapon but the other weapon has a higher power level at they still the same impact? and is +1 resistance on armor the same as a higher power level armor with +1 restance?

Stats are independent of power level + 1 is the same on any armour.

Stats i don't believe can be compared between weapons of different classes but are probably ok to use as a rough guide between weapons of the same type. However a higher power level item will deal more damage than a lower one.

Power level only influences damage dealt though, so 2 identical guns 100 power levels apart wont have different reload speed or recoil.

but will armor have higher resistance from its power level ontop of its resistance stats?

your power level determines how much damage you can do and take in relation to the activity's power level.

if you are of the same power level as the activity, you do 100% of your intended damage and take 100% of intended incoming damage. you can do extra damage to enemies and take less damage from them the higher above the activity's level you are, but this caps at 20+ levels. so for example, if an activity is 1300, someone at 1320 does more damage than someone at 1310, but someone at 1350 does the same damage as someone at 1320.

this also gets a little more complicated when factoring in individual power levels for your weapons, but you really don't need to worry about that unless you are doing end game content honestly

And bear in mind, you can infuse a higher level item (preferably a junk blue) into a lower level one (that you like) to raise it's Light Level.

Sorry, i wasn't overly clear on that, my bad.

Your personal power level (defined by your artifact level + your gear level) will influence the damage you deal and take in relation to the power level of an activity as was mentioned above.

So a higher power level gun will increase your gear level

this will increase your personal power level which will increase your damage dealt and reduce your damage taken.

The resistance stat boosts the strength of your shield, but even at 100 points it's only a small increase and once you go above 50 for PvE content you won't see much benefit from it.

Yea like the others are saying your power lvl comes into effect more than anything else what I would do is simply try out all the legendary weapons you get your hands on with good perks you never know when you will randomly pick up a good one.

There are several websites and apps that can assist you with your decision making. Light.gg is a good one to start with. This website will allow for you to look at whatever weapon you are chasing, view all possible perks available for said weapon, and it will even mark the the top rated perks to help you zero in on what exactly you are looking for in that weapon. Check it out there are several others as i had mentioned above like GUARDIAN.GG & DESTINYTRACKER.COM to name a couple. Hope this helps.

Confirming what they said. Your character's power level is simply a percentage modifier of the damage you do and take relative to the enemies' power level. You can increase the power of most equipment by inspecting it and using an upgrade module to 'eat' a higher power item, so you can keep any equipment you like regardless of the power it started at.

As mentioned, weapon stats are only really useful to compare weapons of the same type. Weapon damage is typically decided by its fire rate/archtype (which is often the same thing, for example "Adaptive Frame" hand cannons are also called "140 hand cannons"), and of course any perks it has like Rampage or Kill Clip.
