tether on atraks

any tether hunter know if i can safely put a tether next to atraks before we start slashing him to pieces or does it start the damage phase?
last time i threw it on his face too early like a dummy and of course we wiped, and im afraid if i wait too much i won't synchronize with the others for max dps

you can do a bit of damage to him before he starts the damage phase. tether does not work on atraks though, as it does not increase damage to any other boss than the captain in the other room

Debuffs most definitely do work on her replications, including Tether.
