Quid Pro Quo glitch? (Part of new light quest)

Heard it that if you reset the rank (Infamy/Valor), it will throw you all the way down to minus 999k and won't let you progress the quest anymore after the reset.
The more ranks I get, the less points I gain, and if I reset, it glitched out or I have to suffer through 30 points per loss as a solo player with nobody to play with? I usually play with random teammates, so bungie...
