Do you have to buy the story now?

Just started and played the quest that brings you to the point you must have Beyond light to continue. While the game is free it seems that after the Beyond Light update that in order to play any of the story campaigns that you must purchase them. Am I correct in this conclusion and if not then how do I start one of the story campaigns?

Yes you are correct, bungie removed all the FREE campaigns from the game, and replaced them with the newer PAID only story content.

You can still get exotics from the FTP campaigns, and you have access to Gambit, Crucible, and some strikes. Not to mention the FTP dungeon.

I started playing the game, and I was stuck in the cosmodrome forever. I finally complete that, and get to the tower. I find that the campaign is impossible to play without new light and I don't want to pay for a damn campaign. is there ANY way to play the f ing campaign without SPENDING FRICKIN MONEY?!!?!?

I was planning in playing it for the first time but after reading this and other posts like it and watching the skill up review of the newest dlc, it doesnt seem to be worth it anymore ..

With all the content they removed which most of it was free ... unless you want to buy the damn dlcs i dont see any point for a new player to start playing this.

Ya and who knows, if you buy the newest content, it may get vaulted away/deleted as well in the future. If you want to Play Destiny 2, better to play on Xbox Game Pass. Game Pass is like playing a rental game; deleting content that Ive payed for would piss me off way too much. Destiny 2 has cross save, so you could switch to the Xbox version.

the "new" raid will also be free for all , so at least as a free player youll have something, though a narrative in this supposedly lore-rich game would be appreciated.

Correct. But there is also a lot for free. If you wanna play campaigns, continue with Forsaken and Shadowkeep, both DLC's are on sale.

No, because they removed the original campaign - which we paid for when this launched, so you know. You didn't lose anything like we did, you just didn't get it for free. Unfortunately everyone seem to forgot that we didn't get it for free and keeps parroting Bungie telling us they're vaulting "free" content, so...

...but like someone said, it's on Game Pass for Xbox and next year, when they launch full cross play, it'll also be on Game Pass for PC. So you'll be able to play it that way too.

when there isnt alot to do as a f2p there isnt a reason for new people to buy it
